Tires: 16 vs 17

I thought I've seen everything, but never saw a mullet Tacoma..

 

Why is this one better than the BF Goodrich KO2?

 

Yes, tires mounted ready to roll: 17s are each 8lbs heavier. Yes, there is a Huge difference in acceleration, braking, cornering. Roughly, 8lbs per wheel multiplied by 4 wheel is 32lbs of rotational/braking/sprung weight that is about 320lbs of chassis weight.
The 16” TRD Bead Locks are damn light, the BBS Tacoma Pro wheels are even lighter!

 

16s do much better burnouts!

 

Personal opinion.

 

Once you feel the difference of the lighter wheels and or tires, it's hard to go back. I think it can only be harder on drive train and suspension components as well to have heavier rims/tires. I recently picked up some Firestone Destination LT215/85R16 X/T's and they are lighter than the P rated 245's that came with the truck. Truck feels incredible. They're 14lbs per tire lighter than my KO's. I love them so far.
To the OP, if you're set on KO2's, go for it, they are considered one of the better tires out there, and they are TOUGH!

Objectively, the Duratracs come in C load for the 265/75R16 size so you'll save on tire weight. Subjectively, I've noticed Duratracs are very popular in Colorado. I've seen more KO2's most other places. Duratracs also have a reputation for weak sidewalls vs sharp objects.

That's good information to know, thank you. I'm in Nevada, which has lots of sharp rocks, plants, and just plain random metal sticking out of the ground for some reason. Gotta go with the more durable

I dont think someone who has the options this truck has is silly enough to actually run 2 sizes. Maybe its a joke or is using a spare and took a pic. TW members are nutty, but not silly.

I’ve ran RT’s on every truck I’ve had. Just had a set installed today.

 

I'm reconsidering my choice to go with the KO2s... I'm thinking the Toyo Open Country AT III tires are the way to go. I know they are only C rated but E might be overkill. I know the KO2 runs a little smaller in size than most others, would the Toyo still fit without any rubbing on my 2021 TRD Off Road in the 265/75R16 size?

 

Toyo's are great tires! I have been running with them for 4 years... balance well, wear well, good traction for a C rated tire.
