So I've been looking at posts all day on tires and rims. Most people I've seen go with the trd pro rims wrapped in bfg ko2. While these are nice I've read the ko2 tires are not so great on the street. My research has taken me to Cooper at3 since they perform great both on and off road, especially in the rain.
My question is rim and tire size. The rims I want are 17x9 or 18x9( fuel fat lip beast d564). In order to wrap that size I need to upgrade my tire also. My concern is taking the tires above the 5% that messes with handling, mpg, acceleration, top speed, gearing, etc... Most go with 265/70/17 which is fine but in order to go with 9's instead of 7.5's I have to go bigger and wider. i don't want to compromise performance for looks. Any imput is valued.
Also I am going with a leveling kit from the dealer. Not looking to raise it much but do want the front to match the rear spacing.

That looks nice sir! Could you get a pic from the front/ back of the truck looking down the side. Curious to see how far the tires stick out past the fender if at all. I'm assuming no problems with rubbing when the wheels are turned fully?

I've heard better things for the st maxx

At3 supposedly don't have a very good off road rating according to cooper's website.
Not when you consider mud and a proper off road trail.

But they come in c rated which is nice

Yupp. Lost about 1mpg. Love the tires. Running around 43 psi on road. I was expecting to lose more.

You may be able to go wider without going any taller.
Not sure where you are from, but if from anywhere that gets SNOW, you'd be better off staying as narrow as possible. 245 width is a good size for places with snow.

So I have a 2016 SR5 and thinking of trying to do something that would stiffen my ride since this thing bounces all over the place on slightly rough roads, wondering if I installed the 5100 Bilstein shocks, would that help? Don't want to get into major suspension work....
I will put a bigger set of tires on it down the road...

    Expedition Portal says otherwise...

    http://expeditionportal.com/where-the-rubber-meets-the-road/

All AT's won't be great in mud, need big large lugs to clear. If you are doing lots of mud then get a mud tire. Everything else an AT is great for a DD that leaves the pavement on occasion or if you are off roading weekly but DD then a hybrid is better.

Thank you so much for the replies and pictures! I live in dfw so the majority of my driving will be on the roads. I might occasionally take it into a field or dirt lot but not really doing any mudding or rock climbing with this thing. I just really like the beefed up look. Leaning towards either the 275/65 or 265/70, depending on what's offered in specific tires. I do like that I still have the option to go with the 18" wheels!

FYI... I'm running BFG AT KO2s (265/70/17) on the TRD Sema rims and they are great on road/highway. They are C rated and do pretty well off road as well.

I agree the mud will be better. But there's also other AT like the st maxx. Bfg ko2 etc that have a much better off road rating.

I'm looking at it as daily drive but the off road I'll be going to is rather demanding for your basic AT tire. There's other more of a hybrid AT that would preform better. I look at it as I'd rather just need to slow down and drive more cautiously in rain etc and have a tire that performs better off road as I'd rather not get stranded or stuck.

I'm just going off stats from Cooper on the st maxx vs the at3. Both are great tires. But obviously one is more off road oriented than the other. When choosing between the two just smart to consider how demanding the off road will be.
Op originally mentioned ko2, st maxx is much closer to ko2 performance but with better on road ratings. More accurate comparison, similar sidewall strength as well.

Like I said that's where you really need to consider what degree of off road you'll be doing. Side wall strength to me is really important to consider.

For those that are running 275's have you noticed any problems with rocks/debris kicking up on the paint job? I wouldn't want to get her all chipped up. That's my only real hesitation on going wider which would be necessary if I go into a 18x9.

Oh also, c class vs e class?

E class is a higher rated tire with greater psi needs? What does that mean for actual driving though? I saw a post about a guy that was having horrible shaking after getting his trd pro rims with the bfg ko2. He later found the problem was that they put on the e class instead of the c. I'm assuming that would't have caused any problems unless they were not inflated properly? A lot of the bigger tires seem to only be offered in e class. Does it really matter which one you end up with?
-thanks again, you guys are very helpful!
