I don't do any heavy off roading like you all do ... but for my use it is a great tire.

If I was a serious off roader ... I would probably pick another tire.

that's what i'm running. i was amazed at how little road noise they generate. traction is good on dry pavement, but not great. i'm looking forward to the first snow to see how they do there.

I had Destination A/T's on my 02 Tundra and had 105K hwy miles on them and they STILL had good tread.

I put the same tires on my Taco...good on the hwy and have never slipped on me in the rain or snow.

Look at the Tire Rack review on them !

Do you have any snow time with these tires? Good traction?

Are these a softer compound that the H/T-S? I stuck between the A/T-S and the H/T-S. I want the traction in all conditions but afraid of the noise, tire wear, and resistance for gas mileage.
Any one have a guiding thought?

You can check online at the tire rack. I believe the Geolander AT/S is a 500 treadwear. Kinda upper middle of the road for a tire. Haven't looked but would guess stock are in the 350 treadwear range. BFG AT's probably in the 600 range.
Softer tires tend towards better road grip but don't last as long. On a light truck like the Tacoma you can expect to get fairly long treadlife compared to say an F250 Crew.
In the end, the AT/S has nice highway grip and handles the light day to day off roading most of us do. good luck

I'm no expert, but something to keep in mind is treadwear is only compared to other tires by the same maker. Or at least that's the way I understand it. So a 500 treadware tire isn't necessarily better than a 400 unless it's by the same maker.

Ok, using that perspective the Geolanders should last 40-50K miles on lighter trucks such as the Taco in comparison to my last truck F150.

Seriously consider the Nokian Vatiiva A/T if you live in the northern half of the USA or Canuckistan. If you live somewhere that used to be Mexico or where the Sonic drive-thru is a viable dinner option, read all the posts that say "Revos kick @$$!" instead.

    About the Nokians:

    http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11952&group=2.02&name=Nokian

They are a Finnish tire manufactured under contract by Cooper. The quality control is on par with or better than Michelin. Mine balanced without any weights on 3 of 4 wheels and produced road force values under 10lbs/tire.

I have 35k miles on mine. The tread depth is still 9/32". They are quiet at 80+ mph, predictable handling, excellent rain traction, and almost as good on snow/ice as my studded Firestone Winterforce set-up. They are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Plus people will ask you about your tires a lot.

I have had the Nokian Vativas on my 05 Taco for 3 years now. I love the traction in the rain and snow, but they are quite loud. They are wearing down on tread and and I am considering other options just because of the noise. Also, I have had problems balancing these tires. I want to love them more than I do, but just can't.

I don't have experience with them but I have friends that do and heard these are great tires all around. I hear they wear very well from what they say and from the reviews online. The tread looks a lot like BFG ATs.
