Ok guys I'm looking into upgrading my stock tires. I want a 265/75/16. I am curious to see what everyone is running with and what everyone suggests on getting a good amount of mileage as well as great off road capability. I've been looking at the bfg t/a tko2 and general grabber at (red wall) any other suggestions?

watch your tire weights if you want to keep good gas mileage.

stock tires are around 35-37 LBS..... a KO2 in a 265/75R16 currently is a load range E which is 53 lbs... thats A HUGE increase and will kill mpgs.

    Duratracs in a 265/75R16 in a load range C are 45 lbs.

If you want a DAMN good tire for street, ice and snow, look no further than the Michelin MS2. A P265/75R16 MS2 is 40 lbs. and has super low rolling resistance.

If you want something more agressive look at the Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10. A P265/75R16 is 39.2Lbs.

I have those hankooks on my truck, they are a great tire, look good and have surprised the hell out of me!

Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar. 10/10 would buy again. 17k so far, love the on and off road capabilities. Howl from the tires is pretty quiet considering how aggressive they are.

I have been trying to make the same decision. Its really unfortunate that so many tires are only available in load range E. IMO they are overkill on most of our trucks since we can't carry much weight. Compared to C and D range tires they weigh more, ride rougher, and they don't elongate as well when aired down since our trucks are fairly light. The only advantage is an extra ply (or equivalent) in the sidewall which helps prevent puncture but for me the tradeoff isnt worth it. Unfortunately C and D range tires are rare in an aggressive AT/MT tread pattern but I found four options. They were the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs, Goodyear Wrangler Authorities, Kelly Safari TSRs, and Maxxis MT-762s. I need good traction on winter roads so narrowed it down to the Goodyears since they are the only ones that have the mountain snowflake severe snow rating. The web is full of info on the Duratracs and there is a good long term review on the Authorities here on TW. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/wheels-tires/233752-goodyear-wrangler-authority-rangers-review.html. Right now its a toss up between the Goodyears for me. The Duratracs are only a few dollars more per corner. If you don't care about an aggressive tread pattern the Expo Portal tested AT tires and their winner was the Cooper Discoverer AT3. http://expeditionportal.com/where-the-rubber-meets-the-road/

I'm running 265/75/16 BFG AT KO2 and love them. I have a bit of rub in the front with a spindle lift and spyder trax spacers.
(I have only had them for a week :D)

After a ton of online research, I went with the Cooper ATP's and had nothing but trouble. Would not balance and began cupping @ 8K miles. Discount Tire traded them out and now I'm back to BFG AT's. The mileage difference is noticeable with the heavier tire, but I feel much better knowing there is tire on the ground with such a long, positive history.

I am currently running the Hankook and have approx. 40K miles on them with minimal wear, so it would appear I'll easily get 80K out of them. They do not grip as well as the OEM BFG that came on the truck that I only got 40K miles out of them. I had never heard of Hankook, but Discount Tire Rep. recommended them and I have not been disappointed.

there is no way they grip less than the rugged fails.

I have gotten up stuff in 2wd with the hankooks vs needing 4wd in the rugged fails.

I really like my ST Maxx, but yes they are a heavy tire. Probably not something to go with if you don't off-road. My neighbor has the AT3 on his 1st Gen and seems to really like them.

Not a fan of the Hankook Dynapro ATm's in our wet coastal snow , my Hankook Dynapro MT's were better

Extremely impressed with Hankook DynaPro ATMs in off road and on highway. They performed great in mud, snow, sand, rocks and were quiet on the highway. Mine were the P type and not LT type.

I am running Pep Boys (made by Cooper) Destiny Dakota AT now, have 20,000 miles on them and no flats yet. They look close to 50% worn. They have done great in sand and quiet on the highway. I have not had them in snow or mud yet.

There is still an outside chance that I will go with the 255/86-16s and if so the S/T Maxx is in the running.

Old thread, but thanks for the info, my General Grabber AT2's are getting close to the end, so looking at putting 255/85R16's on my FJ Trail Teams. Think I will go with Cooper ST Maxx. I have been more than happy with the Grabber AT2 out here in the rocky Southern Arizona, and if they made 255's I would probably stay with them.
