i got new tires on my 013 taco acess cab base
Discount tires said the largest tire I could put on my truck with my new 17" rims was 225 60. Can I ad some spacers to give it a wider stance or should I just take them and throw them through their front window like they advertise

The stock steel rims are 7" wide and people frequently put 265's on them. I think even 285's fit on a 7" rim.

Edit: didn't realize you had a 5-lug taco. I am unsure of the size tire you can stuff under there with a 17" rim. 225/60 seems really small.

I don't know why they said that was the biggest tire that would fit. Since I don't have the lift of a pre or 4x4 I want to give it a beefier look. I'm over 30 days but maybe I could get an exchange thanks

Go with spidertraxx spacers. They're 1.25". Torque them properly and you won't have issues.

Usually the limiting factors are rubbing the front and back of the wheel well or hitting the upper control arm. Check your clearances and adjust from there.

You should use the tire calculator and figure it out for yourself.

Additionally you'll need to know offset/backspacing number for your new wheels. Once you know that, there are online calculators for that as well, as you need to make sure the 1" width you've gained doesn't push the tire too far inside create rub.

Since you have a 5 lug, you might peruse the 5 lug forum, a few threads in there on this topic.

Most of the 6 lug folks can't be much help, as their suspension and wheel configurations are totally different.

If I put the 1.25 spacers on what tire size do you think that comparable to as far as how far they stick out
    Thanks for the info everyone

Just went to the tire calculator and it looks like a 265 55 17 would be a good choice almost 2" wider or the spacers of 1.25. Any more feedback

for a given brand/size of tire, the factory will spec min, optimal and max wheel widths.

Before you pick a random size just becaue it's 'big', make sure it will work properly on your 7" wheel. The closer to optimum the better.

Don't forget your speedo/odo are already way off; after you are done you'll want to at least know how much, if not correct. And you are going to have a notable loss of low end power, as you are reducing your final drive ratio a lot. Many re-gear because of this.

Brand and model? We'll find the actual tire spec. Related to wheel width sizing.

    The tire, not the wheel.

Michelin 225/60r17 is what's on now. I was hoping to go 265/50r17
