    hi
Just put some 285/70/17 on my taco. The wheels have a -12mm offset. Trucks lifted 3in suspension, and 1in body. I also installed SPC LR UCAs. The front tires are rubbing when the turn becomes slightly sharp. I took it to a wheel shop to have it aligned, thinking that the UCAs would take care of the problem? They said they couldn’t get rid of the rubbing. I feel like they didn’t really mess with the UCAs as they should be. Does anyone know if I can fix the issue by adjusting the control arms?

Well even with a 3 inch lift, and UCA's most people do a Cab Mount Chop, and trimming in other areas. Did you get a print out of the after alignment specs?

As @Unchained 5150 says, show us some numbers.

Was this a big box shop with a guy pushing buttons for a green light?

Most and all shops don't know that your arms have a lot of adjustability. They wont even want to touch it honestly. Get in touch with the actual person doing the alignment even bring them instructions on the arms so they can raise your caster which should will get rid of the rubbing.

I heard about that too, that’s why I put the the 1in puck lift, or maybe I misunderstood the purpose of it. And no they didn’t give me a print out.

I will try , but what does the caster have to do with clearance in the back of the front wheels?

The shop is reputable and From what I saw it was this giant lift platform with lights.

They dont know how to set our trucks with SPC arms. My truck has over 30K miles with no problems.

I actually tried to explain to the guy about the arms and I did offer to show him the instructions. He said he knew what to do. I guess I was foolish enough to believe him. Now, I know how to make the adjust, ents, but I have never done a full “alignment “

Ask if he did touch it. Most cases they wont cause they can adjust off the factory adjustments. Tacoma's are built with the alignment adjustment on the lower arm using Alignment cams that turn in and out. Getting more caster allows for better tracking and causes the arm to push the wheel in the wheel well forward. Thus gaining more clearance behind the front wheel.

This was the 1st problem. He said he knew what to do. Nope... Take it somewhere else, show them the instructions before they touch your truck.

Extra caster pushes the wheels forward a bit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caster_angle

My point. A guy pushing buttons for a green lights. Just what you saw.

Great for econo boxes needing basic work. Not so great for someone with custom parts/adjustability.

Could you by chance have a thread on the “how to”?

Castor moves your tire forward, at an angle.
Ideal specs for the alignment are castor +2.5-4 0 toe 0 camber. Your instructions tell you how to adjust or add castor.

Gotcha. So if I’m reading this right, I set mine at +2. Setting D7111B743-8681-451D-AFA0-310E4C044295.jpg

If you're paying under a 100 bucks at a chain store like firestone or les Schwab forget about the tech even noticing the adjustment at the upper arms. He has to do the alignment at a dead run and move on to the next car.

If you call around trying to find the cheapest alignment, get ready for disappointment..

People that know what they are doing will be stubborn about getting paid for their time. Pay up with the right place, do it once and be done

And yes you may need a CMC by the time it's all said and done..

This says it all. Trust me, been there, done that. It really took taking the time and getting to talk to the aligmnent tech.

I did mine myself on my garage floor (the "Before Measurements"). Took to alignment shop for confirmation. I didn't "pay up"!

There's a difference (time) between throwing it on the rack for confirmation and setting up the entire front end from scratch
