Last weekend the TPMS light started flashing for about a minute after startup, then steady. Added about 2 lbs to each tire, including the spare to get them to 30 psi. The light does the same sequence, so finally it's likely the TPMS sensor batteries are bad since it's a 2007. Also, I'll need to buy new tires soon.

I saw a few methods to disable the TPMS. I'm used to checking the air routinely, so I'd prefer to disable it rather than pay for new sensors. But - what I saw was for a 2006 Tacoma, the method may be different for a 2007, connected 12 or 5v to a cut wire instead of ground as with the 2006, so I'm not sure if I want to go ahead with the procedure. I wonder though, since I'll be getting new tires - does anyone know about how much new sensors would be? I don't know if only a Toyota dealership would have them.

 

Every tire shop of volume has them. As does Amazon.

I got ones for my RAV at Costco as a pre-emptive measure, knowing they'd be over 10 yo before I wore out the new tires.

 

Ok - wasn't sure if they were brand specific, checking on Amazon it appears they are. About $50 for 4 is less than I thought but likely more at a shop. I saw some requiring programming, probably another added cost. The ones I saw were rated for only a 5 year battery life. If that's typical, the ones in my 2007 can't be original.

 

They must have had good batteries in 2007. Mine were still working when I replaced them 2 years ago. I was buying new tires and knew it was unlikely the old sensors would out last the new tires. Somewhere around 7-10 years is typical.

I ordered a 4 pack from Amazona and Discount Tire didn't charge me anything extra to install and program them.

I'm thinking mine can't be original. Thanks for the links - so Discount Tire was ok with you buying them from Amazon? I forgot about the spare - when the system was working a few months ago that was the only low one. Couldn't get to the valve since it was mounted up, I changed it so the valve is down now.

The tires on mine are 265/70R/16. The label inside the door indicates the stock tires are 245s. I'll go with the stock size for (maybe)
marginally better fuel economy. I was surprised that the Tacoma's height is very close to my old Chevy Silverado with the Z71 suspension, which is a bit higher than the standard 4x4 suspension. Must be due to the 265s adding about an inch.

 

My tire pressure monitors are all original - 2009 Taco...Go figure

 

Then if they're like mine you may have a couple more years to go!

 

I have a 2008 and it's 2023 so mine lasted 15 years - I doubt the ones at my local tire shop will last anywhere near that but I need tires - I'll ask for good ones if they give me a choice of good, better, best.

 

Ok, so I guess it's not impossible for them to last 15 or so years. The ones I saw on Amazon were only rated for 5.
