    Hey all-
I'm trying to buy some new tires and wheels for my truck. I've gotten so many conflicting answers that it's hard to know which way to go. I've got a 2012 Base 4WD Access cab. It's completely stock with no lift. I know I'm going to run 255 skinny's and my goal is to get the tallest tire without any rub.
My dilemma is between 16 or 17's and what wheel width? I've looked at many charts and don't know if I need offset for the wheels or not (among other things). I just want a taller setup. I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I did look at the info that LadyRed posted....good stuff.
    Any help out there?

1st measurement is width of the tire, 2nd is sidewall height and last is diameter of wheel.
A 245/75r17 will be taller than a 245/65r17 for example. Pretty simple stuff, use the search.

I appreciate the answer, but I'm familiar with the width, aspect ratio and rim size. I was wondering if you have the answer to my question?

    Tee welcome.

It looks like this thread may help out:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/biggest-tire-w-out-lift.547837/

It's from the 3rd gen forum, but I believe the clearances are the same for both generations.

As for 16", or 17" it depends on what you want to achieve. Most people that offroad go for the 16" because of the extra sidewall. 17's (in the same diameter tire) will have less sidewall, and will handle a little better on road. There are plenty of people that offroad on 17's, and bigger though too.

Here's the tire size calculator. You can run a 265/75-16 tire with little to no rub. Use the calculator to get up to that diameter with the width you want to run.

235/85-16 is a very common size. When I bought my Taco, it came with that size tire. I took them off because they are the size for my Chevy dually.

Thanks to everyone for jumping in on this! After reading these, I'll be a bit more knowledgeable on what wheel width I need.
Really glad I joined this forum- lots of good info!
