Gonna need new rubber on my 98 soon, just curious about what people are running, feedback, cost, etc?

I have the original BFG A/T KO1's now, which they sadly no longer make apparently. I've heard mixed feedback on the new ko2's, better sidewall traction, but hard to balance and more.

    Any other brands/models to consider?

You should go to the wheel/tire section. There is lots of good info in there

I have KO's and love them (yes, the old ones). The BFG tires, IMO, are probably some of the best all terrains out there, always have been, always will be.

There really are very minor differences between the original KOs and the new ones. I wouldn't hesitate to go that route.

I have E rated tires, and frankly will never get anything less. I've never gotten a flat, on or off-road.

General grabber at2's are also pretty close to a bfg ko as far as looks go.

    I went from KO’s to KO2’s and I like the 2’s better.

I vote General Grabbers. Edit: They were great on my 75 Pontiac Astre 40 years ago so I’d try them again

You didn't mention what you primarily use your truck for, where you live or what conditions you drive in.

If you're looking for a great road tire, I've had a lot of experience with the Michelin LTX Defender (formerly LTX M/S and M/S 2). Smooth and quiet, deep tread gives me 100,000 miles per set. C Load rated. Fantastic all-around tire.

It really comes down to your use of your truck .

Unless your just going for looks rather then using the tire to it`s best advantage

Id like to hijack this convo slightly. I run KM2. They look aggressive and cool BUT they are much too heavy for my style of driving. Ive gone off road twice since i bought them about 1 year ago. I really wish i had gone with an AT. Id like to get some light weight ATs that are not as loud going down the road yet still have a somewhat aggressive look. I have 33x12.5x15. Im thinking about 255 85 but they dont come in 15s.

I have some Hancook Dynapro MT tires on mine. I had them siped by a tire store local to me. Although they are mud terrains after I had them siped they do great in all conditions. I'm gone through blizzards and slippery roads are pretty easy. I have a topper as well so that helps the weight in the back. I am considering getting another pair. No holes to speak of in them. They seem to wear nicely and having such a light pickup they last a long time!

Well yeah. If you don't off road very often, don't get mud terrains! Lesson here is to buy for performance, not looks.

If you still have decent tread on them, sell them and get your A/Ts. What you're looking for is a ~33x10.50. The 255 is a metric size so only applies to the 16+'s

Personally, I'm okay with the heft of an E rated tire, even for on-road use. It sucks a bit of MPG, but it's not like I'm hypermiling my Tacoma anyway... Never gotten a flat, even off road.

I like the General Grabbers, but I haven't found them in an E rated 255/85r16, so it looks like I'm back to the KM2s (or 3s) for my next set.

I just put a set of Hankook Dynapro AT on my 1st gen. Good riding tire and it has an agressive look.

I concur sir. The path to my 33 KM2s was a circuitous route. It started with a sweeeet deal on some 33x12.5x15 Dunlop MTs mounted on Jeep steelies off CL. I ordered some 15" wheels and took everything to discount tire to get set up on my truck. They refused to mount the Dunlops on my new wheels cuz they said it would be a liability to take off "old" tires and remount. So i bought their equivelant the 33 Km2s. Total impulse buy. Lesson learned. They look awesome and i know they will perform when i need them just not more form that funcrion for my use.

They just wanted to sell you new tires. Tire shops mount old(ish) tires all. the. time. Hell, the tire shop down the street from me sells used tires. As long as the tires aren't damaged and still have tread left, they should mount them without hassling you.

I'd find a different tire shop...

Wow sounds like lotta options. It's not my daily driver, so I'd like something equivalent to the KO's, some all terrain. Definitely not mud terrains.

I'm in san diego, do the occasional desert offroad or baja trips. Will be moving north in less then a year, so will see occasional snow and also will be doing back-woods offroading (could end up in alaska, depends on job outcome).

I also wanted to get the same size tire, but guess they don't make'em anymore and would have to get a metric equivalent: 32 x 11.5 x 15

I don't really understand which letter rating to get, is that load or speed, both? Importance?

    BTW, this is great: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=32-11.5r15-292-74r15
