So I’m looking at tires and noticed the same tires can come in 285 and 33’s but I looked it up and a 285 is pretty much a 33 so what’s the difference between the two options if there the same diameter?

They get called the same because 285/70/17 is a popular size and its just under 33 inches

There's more than one way to get to 33s though. My 255/80/17 are a true 33, just 30 mm skinnier than 285..

Play around with the tire size calculator and you'll get the hang of it
