I’m sure some of you have the annoying tire pressure light that won’t go off no matter what you yourself have tried. Supposedly the spare has to be within spec as well but after checking it the light stayed on. I found this tutorial on YT on how to bypass it all together. All you need is a small gauge wire, wire nut and some electrical tape. In the comment section I read that it didn’t work on some of the later 2nd gens but worked for most. I’ll leave the link. Takes about five minutes. It’s an unnecessary sensor in my opinion so this was really nice. https://youtu.be/jrc3bUWHb2E

Replacing the sensors will cost you the equivalent of one McDonalds Value meal per year to keep them working. About $80 for 4 sensors that should last about 10 years. About $2per year more if you need to buy one for the spare. Pretty cheap insurance if you ask me.

I don't know what is so hard to understand about this, but the sensors don't replace an air gauge. What they do is warn you of a sudden tire deflation while you're driving. Twice since buying my Tacoma I've hit road debris that punctured a tire. I had no idea until the TPMS light came on. Both times I was able to slow from 70+ mph and get off the road before the tire went completely flat. Without working TPMS sensors I might not be alive to type this.

I honestly just don’t see the need for them. Been on the road for 25 years now and not once did I need a sensor to tell me that I had a tire deflating. The annoyance and possible failure of such a useless part isn’t for me. This is just a personal opinion..

I'll try this. I agree with op that is more of an annoyance than anything else.

    Oh look, another mod....

Some people would rather spend 1 - 2hrs doing a DIY project tearing apart their truck & dashboard just to clip a few wires (and thus possibly causing other issues) than spend money to fix the actual problem. A lot of guys on this site are like that. They want to "MacGyver" they're truck so much that every OEM install is customized.

I've never had an issue with my TPMS.
It was set correctly when I had the BFG's mounted and I haven't had the light come on at all, even in the colder months.

Hint: don't just press the "reset" button thinking that will fix your issue.

Meh, removing the glove box with no tools and clipping a wire for a grand total of 2/3 minutes isn’t exactly a tear apart, time consuming job for most. It was just a post for those who might actually want to bypass a useless warning light. So much salt on this site

I see. You have a completely different rig than mine and your light didn’t come on but with mine it did so I did a quick, easy bypass.

Some people like having the light, some don't. I would assume that most of the users on this forum check their tire pressures on a regular basis (I don't and I need to start along with checking my fluids), so having a light isn't that necessary. I could see it being useful on a long trip where you'd be driving for say two or more hours and the light comes on while you're driving, you can then pull over and see which tire might nave picked up a nail or something.

You really have the government to thank for this as people were having blowouts and some SUV's were rolling over because of tire failures due to the vehicle owner not checking the pressures themselves. It's the same thing with backup cameras, it's not a convenience option, it's because drivers were backing over people and objects so the government made all car manufacturers include these "options" to make cars "safer". Drivers however are still stupid.

Where do you buy them for $20 each and how do you get them mounted, paired and programed to your truck ? Any links or info appreciated. The tire store close to me wants $80 for one - they claim my tire is loosing pressure and they claim it's the TPMS on that tire - so far I've just been airing up the tire once a week instead of spending $80 - the one on the tire is still functioning correctly.

George, there are rebuild kits for tpms valves for cheap. This maybe all u need to fix yours. U maynot have to break down your tire , I think its all done from the outside. Screw out a new Schrader valve and screw in new. Good luck.

I bought a set of third generation TRD Off Road wheels with the original Goodyear tires. My son decided they would look better on my white 13 TRD so we swapped the two sets. He had them on a first generation for about a month. The TPMS light came on after about 50 miles and I am unable to reset. The manual states they have to reprogram the system. I assumed the sensors came with the wheels/tires.
    Any suggestions?

OP..... You maybe too young to remember the incidents that placed the TPMS to be mandated in the FVMSS.

Do a bit of research for Ford/Bridgestone rollovers.

You manage your vehicle as you wish.

But there is a very valid reason why the TPMS have been mandated. Just like seat belts, airbags, turn signals, brake lights, side impact, head on impact, gas tank spill (Ford Pinto).........

Manufacturers don't install this equipment for fun.

I think the 3rd Gen TPMS use a different frequency than the 2nd Gen. You may need to replace the sensors.
