Today while driving in my truck Something to Be proud of came on the radio, and got me thinking. Both of my brothers, One joined the Army as a calvery scout, and the other joined the Navy as an aircraft mechanic. I am extremely proud of both of them. I just want to Thank all of you guys for your service!!!!!

The Coat Guard is part of the Armed Forces, used to fall under the Dept of Transportation untilmwe cretaed Homeland Defense. But they are not the oldest branch of service, the Army is. When the service flags are displayed, they are always displayed oldest to youngest. The Army is first since we formed militias formally to fight in the Revolutionary War before the Constitution was ratified.

I support all the men and women that serve the people of their country.

...and sorry, but the Coast Guard is isn't the oldest service. Army's older, Navy's older... That's why the Coast Guard is "the oldest continuous sea going service." The Navy shut down for a couple of years and the Army isn't considered a sea going service. On the other hand, If you ever talk to a National Guardsman they might say they are the oldest...

And is why the Coast Guard claims the birthdate in 1790. The RCS wasn't commissioned until after the revolutionary war. Both the Army and Navy were commsioned during the war. The Coast Guard took its name in the 1915 when the RCS merged with the life saving service.

Here's a good bar bet for you all.

Name the 7 "Uniformed" Service of the United States. Most people will get the first 5.

Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard

    The others?

    US Publich Health Service (USPHS)

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
