Screenshot_20170331-215939.jpg I have had my Truck 8 Months now. And have had the diff howl from day one!! and now have 13,000 hard work miles on my Tacoma Towing 2,600 pounds 5 days a week since new and still going strong!! My diff hasn't blown up yet lol... and the sound resonance has not changed or gotten any louder, Just putting this out there to put everyone at ease a little, I'm waiting patiently for Toyota to fess up and get this Right..

Even if Toyota found a fix, I think I'd wait for a while before I let them try it on mine. Don't want to be a guinea pig for their diff fix.

The naysayers don't want you to put them at ease because it would take away their reason to gripe about it.

Yes you did. My rear end has a slight howl in it at 55 mph but I am not worried about it. I just drive it. If it tears up I have the extended warranty and Toyota can fix it problem solved.

Is this only happening to the 8.75 rear diff?

Do you need to know, or care?
My diff doesn't howl. Turned off the radio and listened at different speeds, but nothing. :notsure:

From looking around the internet it does seem to be isolated to the Off Road for the most part.

The howl is very slight and you have to barely be applying the gas at freeway speeds, mostly around 55 to 60 miles per hour. Most people probably won't hear it... just try barely, barely pressing the gas pedal on a level surface and you will probably hear it. That's how mine howls anyway.

Yea, I'm at 8700 miles, 3 months old, and I have the rear diff. howl. It came on around 1500 miles, and has been with me ever since then.

Next service for 10k, I'm letting them document, just in case.

Didn't buy an extended warranty. Waste IMO.

Sucks to hear, good idea to have them document it.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
All you need to throw mud tiers on it. Then all you'll hear is sweet sound of tread slapping the pavement.

Wonder if it has any relation to the crawl control mechanisms in the offroad models?

Doubtful as the manuals suffer from this too. I'm not too worried. My Ranger howled and it went over 200,000 miles. If Toyota finds a fix then great; if Toyota doesn't find a fix oh well - it still operates fine.
