It is a bit nerve racking to put the headlight assembly in the oven for the first time. But take your time, have a beer, stay calm and all will go as planned if you're careful. Once you get done you'll laugh at yourself for being leery of it and commence to offering help to other TW members.
Derp comes in white, try that for the emblem.

I may try the White Plasti-dip.. Awsome! Not sure where I can get it though...

I will be posting in this thread when I get my lights done... Maybe this weekend since we got some nice ass weather! I got plans saturday, so hopefully I can get it done in one day, (sunday)..
Its going to be funny when I do it, and my family says. "What are you doing now?" :)

Or... if your wife is anything like mine she will say "why the fuck are you putting your headlights in our oven??????"

At least that's what mine said lol. I just said you'll see... She wants me to do the FR-S but like I said before... I am just leery to do those for some reason. I guess because they are so damn expensive.

You'll be glad you did it with whatever color you go with. It is by far my favorite mod to do on our trucks. Like others have said, just take your time. The hardest part is breaking the seal between the lens and housing. once you get the initial break just pull them apart. The sealant Toyota uses sets back up pretty quick but I would say that you have a good 45-60 secs. to work with (maybe even a bit more). After that everything else is cake!

I vote do it! Once I get the time and the nerve I'm doing mine. Can't stand the stock look against all the black I have on the truck.

    where's the pics!!:D

Oh, and im halfway done with my bhlm.. I started early, (like 6) and I or ready have 2 coats on them. It was a bitch trying to get headlight out!
Im doing something alittle different from everyone else though.. Im keeping the area where the side marker like is chrome.. I figured it would break up the black right there nicely. cant freakin wait!:D:D

I'm not a fan of blacked out headlights... But that is one totally awesome looking truck. It's perfect.

Dude that came out nice! Looks especially good with your blacked out grill. Is that a TRD emblem you were able to get in there? Have wanted to do mine but am leery of the whole oven baking and making sure I don't mess up my lights.....

Nope! Im using the valspar stuff from lowes. It looks ok now. It has a nice gloss to it to. I just hope the humidity didnt ruin the paint..

Thanks. Yeah I got the TRD Emblem off Amazon.

As far as the BHLM goes it is intimidating no doubt if you have never done it before. The first time I did it I was a nervous wreck. After you figure out the process it really isn't that hard. The hardest part is removing the lens from the housing (well that and the "idea" of actually putting them in the oven lol).

Set it to 300*. I put my light on a large cookie sheet covered with a cotton towel then put it in the oven. Turn off the oven and let it sit in there for 10 mins. Pull it out when the timer goes off and use a flat blade screwdriver to start at the corner and pry off the lens. Once you get it part of the way up you just pull them apart. You should have about a min to do this which is plenty of time. Once that is done it is easy from there. Just make sure you seal it back up good and you should have no leaks.

There are a couple of good write ups on here. I don't know about the 12-13 yr models but the 11 was easy.
