Currently driving 2011 Tacoma (4 door, 6 foot bed, TRD).

Bought new, company vehicle. The company has decided to sell. Offering to me before sending it out to the public.

185,000 miles (high miles I know, but very well taken care of. Always maintained, good to very good condition)

Offered to be at $9,500. No wiggle room on the price.

Pic attached with company logo edited out.Tacoma.jpg

    Should I take it?

Were you the one who drove it or was it open to a ton of drivers?

Flipping it did cross my mind. Not sure what my profit would be. I would love to keep it though, as I currently don't own a truck.

One driver prior to me, but I was with company at that time too. I know for a fact it has always been very well taken care of. One minor accident, but repaired through dealership. Runs great. Only thing that has really 'broke' is a rear leaf spring that I just had repaired.

Would you buy this truck if you found it on a lot? Or is this the type of truck you want? If so, TAKE IT!!! That's a deal!

Thank you for all the ongoing replies!! Much appreciated!!

In everyone's opinion, how many more miles could I expect to get on it before something major breaks down? I realize it's a crapshoot, and a risk you take with high miles, but I've heard of tacomas going 300+ with original guts.

    185K isn't really high mileage for a Tacoma that's been maintained. :D

If you were to keep it, you can expect it to make it another 100k miles easy if you do all the required maintenance.

This, but also remember as the miles add up the cost to maintain it will go up as well. The real problem you get into with Tacomas when you get to that high mileage is paying more for maintenance work in a year then the truck is worth.

    This^

    It's a good deal either way, however if it's a 4x4 then its a no-brainer.

I agree that the maintenance costs will go up a bit over the years but can it really be so bad every year that it's more than the truck? I think he should be good with basic maintenance.

Well for example my dad had a 98 taco with 275k and in one year he replaced the entire clutch assembly, head gasket, and was then told his front end needed replacing. The truck was worth $4k, now depending on who does the work you could keep the cost down but using a dealer would be around $4k. Now I don't think that's a problem, but something to be aware of. And it certainty wont be like that every year, but it could happen some years. I'd just recommend having savings set aside when driving a truck at that stage, and with the money you'd save on the purchase I don't think that's a deal breaker.

Where you located? One of the main issues is frame rust. If your out east I would definitely check the frame yourself, if you find something suspicious take it to a Toyota dealer for the free frame inspection, if they say it qualifies for the extended frame replacement warranty, I would buy it and have them do the frame replacement, steal for a truck with new frame.

Spending $4k on maintenance in a year is right about what my truck payment is, so if he pays cash for it, it seems a necessary evil that is hopefully not necessary every year. But still not that bad.
