I bought a super cheap topper of Craigs list for trips it sits next to the house and I use it when needed.

After this winter and I save up some spare $$$ (although who ever has spare $$$) I may grab a used cap if I can find one in MGM for the winter. In the not too distant future I'll be losing my garage space, so it will be nice to have it for the winter so I don't have to shovel out my bed. I figure I can still fit the snowblower in the back with the window up if need be.

I dunno. I think if I were your kids... I'd rather crawl under a rock than walk into a ski lodge with a Tupperware container under my arm. LOL Props for innovation, but... Com'on Man. [IMG]

Where are y'all getting details on the different Snugtop options? Prices?

    Their website... well, it sucks.

Got an are mx I believe. It's the mid rise. Camping in the shell is 1000x better than a tent. I didn't want a mid rise but I got one hell of a deal on it but I'm glad it is a mid rise. It adds head room when camping.

I started with a bakflip tonneau, but decided to look for caps shortly after. I was lucky enough to find a decent matching cap on Craigslist for little more than what I could sell my tonneau for.
I like the look, space, and utility of the cap. I also think it softens the ride in the rear. One thing I have noticed is getting in and and out of the back is a pita - making it tough at times to utilizes all of the space. I've now got an eye out for a bedslide. I would love the full drawer setup, but I really can't justify the expense.
Tacoma ownership is started to feel similar to boat ownership... more stuff to always buy.

Well, I of course am the one who walks to the ski lodge with the Tupperware. One of the compromises we all have to make.:)

On the topper topic... got my first ever Tacoma on Friday. Soooooo awesome to drive it home from the dealership. Now starts the canopy hunt.

I almost wish I could roll the cost of the top into the truck loan. Sounds like I'm looking at 1000 and up for a decent fiberglass top.

Gonna drive in to Salem on Monday and check out that All American topper place between Hwy 99 and I-5 on the south end of town. I hope it's not going to be like used car salesman world pressure. Going to be a solo trip... been doing all the reading I can on tops so I don't sound like a dumb girl when I get there.

Honestly check craigslist. You may not find the exact shell you want with the exact options you are looking for but you can save some major bucks.

yup. if you are worried about the cost buy used. They are always available for under a grand. sometimes 500-700.

damn, how'd your camper hold up like that? looks like it lifted off the bed, so I assume it was being held on by 2-4 brackets in the front? sketchy.

I surfed Craigslist last night. Found a magnetic gray one that would fit my truck... and a silver one, I think it was. Decent prices. And in reasonable driving range. Trouble is, I've got the brown truck (pyrite mica). The other lady of the house... she says, no and no. Has to be matchy.

So... we'll see what I find tomorrow on a drive in to the valley and the nearest dealer in Salem. That is, if this storm today hasn't blown all the rest of the trees down on Hwy 18 between the coast and the valley.

    But wait, I've got a 4x4. LOL

Anyhow... so much for the great deal I got on the truck. Now I know where my savings on the truck will disappear to... the cap. :( Oh well.

Snugtop rebel here. Totally happy. Usednfor camping, locking down gear, etc. No real loss in mpg, and the ride has been significantly smoothed out. Prices and info on snugtop website not too helpful, when it comes to buying it new, dealer prices will vary. I think in fine SoCal, I dropped about $2200 for it new with all the options I wanted (fold down window, racks, light, carpet, screens). Worth every penny. Very happy. Wasn't gonna find one used in Spruce Mica, but if you can scan the ads (Craig's, etc) can be had for much better deal, as said above. Removing it is no prob, if you need to. Building a pulley lift for mine next month.

Good luck. Count me as a "cap it" vote!

Very nice! I like the green ones, too.

With my new truck... I know this time I'm going to get the cool rims it deserves. I just saw a brown Tundra same color as my Taco with those black rims like yours in this photo. That'd look great on mine.

I finally went and looked up the "fold down window." Yep, have to have that feature. What a great idea. I remember back a couple decades trying to reach my short little arms through the gap to clean the windows between the Dodge truck cab and canopy. Crazy.

Honestly, right now... if someone said there was a way to roll the cost of the top into the truck's loan. I'd do it and get a spiffy top for the new beast.

It's Monday. Sticker shock day. I didn't flip out about the cost of the truck. I flipped out at the quote of $2000 for a Snugtop Rebel canopy. Fold down window in the front, pet screens on the side sliders, headliner inside, LED light unit in ceiling. Holy Crap!

I was so flustered... I didn't even ask if they had payment plans. Do truck shell stores offer payment plans? Hell. I just said, thanks, have to chew on that news. And ended the call.

Besides... the spousal unit is in some sort of tailspin snit today. Maybe the financial burden spinning her differently than it is me. I dunno. Mondays suck.
