I'm not familiar with Snugtop pricing, that brand is difficult to get here on the East Coast. But I just ordered a Leer 100xr with similar options and it was 2K out the door. I also priced an A.R.E. and the cost was basically the same. I'm using some of our tax return for the cap purchase. I never have any luck buying used stuff so it's usually new stuff for me.

For you cap folks, is it ok to drive a long distance with the back window up. I would have two 10ft surfboards sticking out the back of my 6 ft bed and wondered if the window would bounce. I won't want to put a rack on top of the cap as one of the reasons I went from my 4Runner to a truck is my older age has making it more difficult to put the boards and kayak on a rook rack. :(

When I had my Dodge truck and had to have something stick out the canopy door... I'd bungy the door down tightly to the wood I was hauling so it wouldn't bounce. But I've never done any serious off roading that way... don't know how a door would hold up in that configuration if you were going on a long track to get to your surf location.

Adapt or die. Right? I'm going to get a rack on my cap, but I hear the getting older thing. At 50... my warranty is definitely off. Have to figure out how to adapt... too many things left I want to do. :)

Hate to say it, for the boards, but get a rack. I had to do the same. Driving any speed will push the back door on the shell down and prematurely wear out the gas shocks on it too.

I would really have to recommend the rack for surfboards.

    And a step stool.

Window closed, tailgate down. use cargo hooks and a ratchet strap to secure boards. then hang a red flag on the ends of the board. done.

Look out for snakes in the grass guerrilla marketing.
Just like the kayak in my pic below ;)

Or use good boardbags and bungie/fasten the window down as suggested above

Luckily I can fit my whole quiver in the back, shortboards FTW :D

Well... after a few days of study, questions, answers, and great support from the TW... going to be placing an order for a Snugtop Rebel. Got the financing thing worked into the truck loan... reasonable budget with the huge savings on a 2014 truck.

    Thanks TW. :)

Nice work! Lots of dealers won't roll the shell into the loan. Enjoy the cap of your choosing. Well worth the cost!

I figured all I could do was ask. Local credit union working with the dealership... happy to have the business maybe? I'm feeling pretty lucky.

    I own a truck. Woooo!
