Really depends on your needs for the bed. I frequently haul lots of big stuff and a cap would get in the way.

I dunno, do you need a cap?

If you need a cap then I'd say go ahead and get one. If you don't need a cap then I'd go ahead and hold off

Bought a cap for my dog so the cabin stays cleaner. Love it.

Kinda hard to tell you if you need a cap. Only you know how you use your truck.

I capped mine. I don't haul big stuff, but I make a fair amount of day trips down logging roads to plink, shoot photos, and explore. Also make road trips with tennis gear. Having the cap to keep things dry when in the forest or going over the mountain passes has been perfect. That's my use.

And I'd like to add that often times you can't go wrong with purchasing a cap if you need it. However, there are occasions where you may find yourself not needing one in ANY capacity, and it's best at that point to just not get one.

I bought mine to keep our bikes secure when traveling. It's a nice comfortable feeling that they are locked up inside the cap, plus it helps to keep the out of the weather.

Never had one because I like the visibility, and I do not really need that much dry storage. May get the softopper some day because it is easier to move out of the way if I have something oversize to haul.

I've never had a cap either, how easy are they to remove? Possible for one person?

Like others said depends on what you do and are looking to do with your truck. I personally have had a cap on every truck I owned and it always is the first thing I do after buying a new truck. If you ever need to use it without the cap grab a friend and it will come off and be back on in an hour.20161209_104408.jpg

You want to have atleast one guy on both sides its atleast a grand if you drop it. Some guys that are cleaver make a rope and pulley setup in their garage to take it on and off.

Ours only weighs maybe 150-175lbs? With the rack on it. But it's really big and awkward. I probably wouldn't try to do it yourself unless you want to risk tapping it and shattering your windows. I can't imagine they would be cheap to replace.

    Workin' on it....
Possible for 1 person if you have a setup for it. I have two 1" x 4" boards with hooks in them which are slid under the cap, there are eye bolts in the garage rafters and I run a tie down strap through each of the 4 corners. Then lift everything up corner by corner if I'm by myself. It works.

Have one on mine. This is my 3rd Toyota pick up, first with a cap.
It's great having the shell on there (especially in the winter) with my gear in the back.

You need to really think this out better than I did.
I calmly explained to the wife that I needed a second truck without a snugtop so that I could occasionally haul tall items.
She calmly explained to me the effects of living in a community property state....
I love my snugtop 99% of the time and just rent a U-Haul F150 when necessary. It beats the hell out of giving the old lady 50% of my sh!t!

Man, yer glad we aren't neighbors. You'd get tired of finding me all the time sitting in a lawn chair in yer driveway just staring at yer rig. I'm trying to be satisfied with my 2nd gen and you, sir, are not helping....:hattip:
