Ordering a new cap tomorrow for our third Gen. debating whether to get it carpeted or not..

I’ve only ever had the bare fibreglass inside ones- but the sure look nice all covered and fuzzy.

    Advantages?

It sure looks nice with all the fuzzy interior. Plus if you sleep in your bed it doesn’t hurt as bad when you bump your head on the cap. :D

The carpet helps keep the condensation down and adds a little insulation , it’s nice if you sleep in the back camping.

I went the softop route this time, but after using my last cap on my 09, I would have it headlined just so I didn't tear anymore stuff, while stuffing that bad boy full going camping with the family.

I have a Leer 180 on my 17. Mine got installed and water leaks in at the top forward corners of truck bed. This is not the Leer cap leaking, it's where the slide rails meet the forward bed corner creating a very tricky opening to seal. I have used some foam plugs to fill gaps and silicone to stop the leaking but still getting water in. On another forum someone stated their installer plug it up for them and they didn't even know about it....or unfortunately how they sealed it.

That bedrug looks great! I've been thinking about one of those. I'd like to get into doing some truck camping. Still researching what all I want/need to setup in the back.

I know, right? I just happened to be searching randomly for Tacoma parts and ran across it. Bought it that same weekend, lol. Thank you very much!

Absolutley no Cap. If you have a Short bed then a cap will make it practically useless.

Wrong... love mine. Can load it up with way more stuff than with an open bed or with tonneau cover.

I have always had a cap on my 98 taco, still got it and now the 17 is complete. I find them very useful for what I do, others may not. It's a personal choice in what really does and does not work for you.

I had a cap, but didn't like the extra weight up high, so sold it. Got a tonneau & much prefer it for ease of access to the cab end of the bed. I tend to carry multiple small things. But, today I bought another used cap - I like the concept, but only for camping. This one has a roof rack, so I'll mount the RTT on it & just mount it all when I go camping. Day to day, tonneau. I like being able to see unobstructed.

I've been on the edge about pulling the trigger on a cap for my DCSB TRDOR. My truck is black, and that picture above pretty much sold me. My windows are tinted(not quite as dark but still- it looks good). I have a Backflip cover on the bed now that leaks a lot so I'll throw that on craigslist or something for sale to help offset the cost of the cap. I'll probably get the windows tinted much darker on the cap, I want the ability to sleep in the back without anyone knowing I'm in there. I realize camping/sleeping in the back of a SB truck isn't a good option, but I measured diagonally and there is more than 6ft(IIRC, I measured it over a year ago)...I usually sleep on my side and bend my legs anyway, so it'll do.

Now I just have to decide on a brand. I like the ARE CXHD(if I ever go roof top tent, it's capable of holding 550lbs). I also like the Leer 100XR, but it's roof top weight capacity isn't nearly as much as the ARE. I submitted 3 price quotes from the Leer website to some semi-local dealers and only one got back to me telling me I'd have to bring the truck by to give me a price.
I plan to pop off those plastic bed rail covers and run a bead of clear silicone caulk down it.

looking under your rig - I guess that is the Raven edition?
You need some potato cannons mounted on the roof!

I got this pic off the net, looked at it for months but finally went with 180 mid rise. Sick looking truck.
