I would keep it and use your budget for some decent suspension seats and maybe new head unit/sound system or something. It'll make the truck feel fresh but you get to keep the 1st gen

I got a nice DBL din screen in there, i built this fiberglass box to fit in the back without taking up to much space

I went to the salvage today to look for some seats for a swap.
Mazda protege seats looked nice but not many features. I want heated seats!
found a nice set of leathers out of an acura but they were tan!!!
the nicest were seats out of a buick Rendesvous but they sat way to high!
Not a single 4 runner or newer toyota. About 500 90's chevy 5.3s hahhaha

There is a reason 1st gens still go for so much money.

+1 on the refresh. You sound like you can do a lot of wrench work, why not update the whole thing? You can get heated seat kits/back up sensors/bluetooth all aftermarket and just make it nice. The heated seats install right into your currents or new ones if you want to upgrade them.

Update the interior, add a blower and maybe massage your suspension if it needs it. You'll have a whole new truck and no payments to make (Unless you go crazy in the credit card shopping for parts... )

Im at 408k miles, I would trust my truck to take me to south america over a 2nd gen, mostly due to having an electronic transfercase switch.

But I also hear you on the comfort factor, my buddies 2nd gen is so much quieter and nicer, mine just bounces the shit out of my back.

Yeah I know they're in demand but the whole purpose of KBB is that it adjusts the price for the demand in your area. When shopping for my trucks I got real sick of owners and dealers always saying "It's a Toyota" Yeah I know... doesn't mean I need to pay 2k more than its worth.
