Barely related but a cool video. I really am glad I had a HC here (3 min mark).

I think we're all in agreement that HC is good for more serious wheeling, but when I bought my bumper I didn't imagine I'd be doing stuff like this. Such is life.

I like that, are they in SoCal?
    ....do they install too?

Are the sides attached to the frame at all?

I like the swing outside but then I can’t carry two dirt bikes.....u need the tailgate down.

I'm kinda confused what we are comparing departure angles on? Are we comparing stock bumper to HC? Or HC to our standard bumper?

Our standard bumper has a much better departure angle than the stock bumper. Some of it is because of the integrated hitch, some of it is because of the dimensions of the bumper. Our HC bumper has effectively the same departure angle as our standard bumper since they are both similar in design.

HC to stock is what I was referring to.

I think its crazy that no one makes a bumper with bed side quarter panel protection without having to cut. Coming from Mini trucks and Land Cruisers, this is a norm. For some reason with tacomas everyone just has to be cool with cutting the bottoms of the bed off. Its insane to me. Fender flares already stick out from the side of the bed Why not make a bumper that goes over the bed without cutting.

You can then cut a hole in the fender flares and run it under the flare at the wheel well and it would look good. Done.

I want something with side protection, no cutting, and BSM support.
Might be looking for a unicorn...

Side protection and no cutting is VERY Doable. It just takes longer to design. Shit my firstgen 4runner had a tube bumper made by kids in china (AKA Trail Gear) that had side panel protection. Looked just fine.

You are SOL on blind spot monitoring though. I mean if you are at the point of cutting your bedsides, BSM is kind of a moot point.

The BSM sensors are giant black squares behind each corner of your bumper. The reason no one offers a compatible bumper is it can't have steel in front of it and they have to be precisely placed. That, and the potential liability of BSM malfunctioning and someone getting in an accident and pointing fingers. Just not worth companies time.

The unicorn is definitely BSM as no one makes one with that.
There was one company that did but they discontinued it.

If I wanted BSM I would have gotten a rav4. I got my tacoma without it intentionally.

It wouldn't be hard or take nearly as long as designing a high clearance bumper. The main issue is not having a way of supporting the large section that would be the "protection". Since the bed is still in the way, you can't tie into the frame. And if you can't support it well then it will just deflect into the bed and damage it anyway.

    And since I don't have a Tacoma, and don't want a rav4, I don't want to be forced into buying a rav4 :p

Is the main concern vertical or horizontal (causing twisting) forces pushing it into the bed?

Would there be any way to cut through the bed only at the support spots to reach the frame? Maybe a hole saw or something? I am sure many of us would rather take a hole saw to a non visible part of the bed than cut off the bottom of the bed lol.
