Used @ 23,283 Volant Intake (w/ scoop)(removed August 2016), BAKFlip G2 Tonneau Cover, (drain tube mod), Pop & Lock Tailgate Lock, Stampede Vigilante Premium VP Series Hood Protector, 5lb Extinguisher, Shovel & Axe mounted in bed, Shok Industries Sound Deadener, Mercury: (K62, MGR-1200, MGR-495) Triton 8" Subs, Custom-Made: Sub Box, Speaker Templates, Vapor Barrier, All-Pro Bumper w/Kickouts, hidden trailer hitch, wooden cup-holder Misc: Knukonceptz RCA, speaker, and power wires, Big 3 Upgrade, a very full Husky technician tool box
As a sport, you can get a double cab long bed whereas the off-road you can't, you have color matched fenders & etc instead of chrome. And you have a 8.4" LSD rear diff instead of a 8" rear diff locker.

The only cons I can think of against a sport is that glare from the scoop which I've never experienced, and there isn't ATRAC, but that's fixed by the yellow wire mod.

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
    To each their own.

Yes a hood scoop is just that. A non-functional show item on a Tacoma truck. Just about basically every other major truck manufacturer has the hood scope offered feature as well and they are there only for looks and looks alone too.

But a Tacoma hood scoop still is cool looking nonetheless in my book!
Gives the Tacoma a bit more of an edge on style in the looks catagory.

There could be arguments about having one and not having one but just like other mod's and features on a Tacoma truck one can somewhat compare this to blackend headlights, side steps, etc., etc., etc. where some mod's may be useful but really is it necessary?

Like the hood scoop those are just to enchance the look of the Tacoma and nothing else.

Originally I had a plain hood but like the hood scoop so much went ahead and got one and am very happy with the total look of my Tacoma now!

Do mod's, upgrades, etc. for yourself. If its going to make you happy do it because basically its up to you and you alone that matters and forget about anyone else.

Oh and by the way if "sun glare" from a hood scoop is going to be a problem for some then I highly suggest that you purchase "polarized sunglasses" to take care of that problem.

    Good luck on your decision.

Here are a few pic's of mine with a plain jane hood (& front grill) and with a hood scoop (& custom grill).

    Like, so many.
The hood scoops look badass. I'd love to get my hands on one. Really makes the front end look mean.

I initially test drove a 4x4 Sport and liked the look of the scoop. I knew it was non-functional, but I thought it looked cool.

Then I did some research and found the 4x4 OR costs about the same as a 4x4 Sport. So it really came down to the cool looks of the fake hood scoop plus a sunglass holder, which come with the Sport, or no fake hood scoop, no sunglass holder, and a rear locker and an additional gadget to assist with difficult terrain, the "Crawl Control" mode.

The facts tell me I'm getting a more capable truck with the OR for the same price as the Sport. So that's what I bought. But I still think the scoops are cool, just not worth the extra $$.

From some of the reading here on the forums the skeewp adds some structure to the hood preventing the flutter experienced by those with the plain hoods. There is some function after all. Sorry limp hoods.:anonymous:

I wouldn't get one. They have no real purpose other than blinding you under the sun

I had the scoop, but I traded it for no scoop and made some extra cash in the deal. No longer blinded by the glare, and strangers still say "cool truck" to me. I prefer the look anyway

Scoop it! My '09 Sport had the scoop, my '11 Off Road does not. I would buy a scooped hood in a heartbeat if I had the money. The glare was never an issue for me, maybe because I have polarized sunglasses.

Once I decided that I wanted to get a hood with the hood scoop I just started searching Craigslist. A couple of weeks later I luck'd out and an individual had one listed for sale. It was black though and the seller was asking $300 for it but seller said that since this was the third time it was being listed on CL that the price was negotiable.

Called and then went to go check it out to see if in fact it was the right year hood for my specific year model and sure enough it was. After talking about it I asked if he'd take $100 for it since I was going to have to pay to have it repainted to match the color of mine. He agreed because he was at the point that he just wanted to get rid of it and there I was willing to buy it and well now it's on my 2008 Tacoma.
