I've got a 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport V6 4x4 with the 6MT transmission and have been getting some really excellent mpg's lately (24 mpg on my last tank). NOTE: the truck is completely stock. But with that said, I've been hearing about how much better the KDMax and/or OV Tune is with our trucks when it comes to acceleration and such. I would love to get the benefit of a tune but I won't do it if it'll affect my mpg's. Has anyone with a 3rd Gen and the 6MT had one of the tunes installed? Which tune did you do? How did you like it? And what happened with your mpg's?

Tuning is definitely worth it, even on the mt. Helps low end power and 2nd gear significantly

I’ve run about everything and I keep going back to a tweaked version of OVT 2.0 SFOB using some of the community edits

there’s also a 2.0 ultimate coming out and sounds like a solid upgrade from the people testing it.

I just kdmaxed my 6mt 2017 and it def feels so much better. It is worth it for sure, my mileage went up 1mpg but I drive it a bit harder.

2020 6MT here. Almost stock, went to 265/75/16s. GY Ultraterrains, 3 lbs heavier than stock. I was averaging around 21.5 mpgs running 89 octane. I got KDmax 6.0 91XT about a month ago. Running on 93 octane and getting 22 mpgs. The biggest difference for me is 1st & 2nd gear. I hated them before. The best way I can describe it is that before KDmax, it felt like starting on an incline, now it feels like starting on a decline with super linear power band. 13K miles on the truck, really wish I had done it a year ago. Holler with any questions.

I’m in NJ with a 2020 TRD Sport as well! It seems like KDMAX is the way to go between these two tunes based on reading a lot of posts. The stock tune is quite laggy before 3-4k rpm.

I've tried a bunch of different options. In my opinion, whatever offering is the cheapest in your area will yield you mostly the same results as the others. Everyone has their shift points dialed in at this point with more linear power, and to me that's the key. Power claims aren't irrelevant, but to me this isn't a performance vehicle and never will be. The thought/feel of power gains is negligable in comparison to the improved throttle response/shifting.

How are you getting over 20MPG average?

I have OV tune with LT265/70/17 E load range, and my truck is manual.

I get over 20 on the highway.

load range e tires is gonna suck down mpg. A lot of extra weight to spin.

I'm on 265/75/16 wildpeaks in SL and can get around 20mpg on highway (after adjusting for tire size) if I keep my speed under 70. At 75ish I get 19-19.5.

17 mile drive to work with only 4 stop lights/signs. 45 - 55 mph for most of it.

You have a manual how much gains are you really going to get with a tune . The price doesn’t justify the outcome .

You should try a tune. Whether OV2.0 SFOB or KDM XT. If you were near me I’d let you try one free. It’s a pretty drastic improvement for both AT and MT.

I was skeptical, but I saw an opportunity w/ PapaRee and gave it a shot. No kidding, I was convinced it was a good purchase after about 15 seconds of driving after the tune. It's just a different truck now.

It’s 100% worth the price. Power comes in much sooner. Changes in gears 1/2 are immediately noticeable

    Which tune did you get?

    I'm undecided.

    Get in touch with @Grossomotto

He is in your area and can install the tunes for you. He typically lets you test it out and decide if you want to change before you take off.

Great guy and highly recommend him for any install in the NE

KDM 6.0 91XT. I would like to try 87XT sometime to see if there is a difference. I just kinda flipped a coin and went 91
