this, the utah sheriff association is also very big on protecting the 2A.
    this
i honestly don't know where the san diego politicians stand (probably anti-2A) but the chief of police said that "San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne is fully supportive of the gun grab, and says if lawmakers play it right Americans can be completely disarmed within “a generation.”
but yes, it depends on the culture, in Mississippi my uncle (LEO) said his chief couldn't even think about what would happen if they disarmed the county.

I wouldn't expect the majority of law enforcement to support it, nor would I expect the majority of people on an off-road enthusiast truck site to back it. For the same reasons.

But change is coming, it's inevitable.

    Bingo.

You can't get the pulse of the country by a couple of outspoken people or organizations.

I asked this earlier but it got missed. For you Canadians in here, if the potential buyer has never had a mental health checkup what is required to prove "sound mental health"

Honestly, I think that's the biggest missing link stateside. How we treat and deal with the mentally ill.

All I did was answer "No" to questions asking about my mental health. I'v never had a mental heath check up, but I would imagin if I had had metal health issues in the past there would be some sort of record of it whether it be police or medical records. In the end I didn't have to prove anything.

    Interesting, thanks.

So a followup question: The guidelines on the front end seem pretty spelled out. Is it common for people purchasing a weapon to not actually have to do all of this? Or is it, if we find a red flag anywhere you're doing all of this but if we don't we expedite the process?

No expediting ever as far as I know (always a min 28 days). Everyone has to go through the whole process to get a license. Once you have a license you renew it every 5 years. You cannot go into a store and buy any type of firearm or ammo without your license....so no shot-cuts.

An exception would be for armed forces and law enforcement. I have a buddy who is an RCMP officer and he doesn't have a PAL it's something different.

In order to get a firearm you need a PAL (gun license). This is just the process of acquiring a PAL. You cannot legally buy a firearm in this country without a PAL.

Armed forces still need a PAL to buy a personal firearm.. dont know about law enforcement though.

Well you also have to look at what was actually being proposed vs the fantasy some people want to have for what they thought was going to happen. To paint the side pushing for changes as anti- 2a isn't really accurate IMO as that implies they just want abolish it all together, ban all guns, and make everyone turn them in which wasn't the case. To have someone worry about what would happen should the country be disarmed is really dealing in extreme hypothetical situations. That was never going to happen nor was that being proposed. I know throwing around the terms anti-2a and disarmament are the good talking points to get people more fired up.

You look at how things have gone and I would really be surprised to see the AWB go through now. There just doesn't seem to be the support to pass it. At this point I'll think you will end up getting legislation passed regarding universal background checks and that sort of thing and they might even get something passed with magazine capacities but I don't seem any actual specific weapon bans getting passed. At least not right now.

yep, i would've been shocked if it had passed, rich and i were talking and he brought up that if so and so passed x law, so and so would be looking for jobs, like after the first AWB.

I don't want to live in a place where I need to carry a gun to feel safe in public.

    Exactly

Bring up any proposed changes and people start throwing out the Australia buy back program as step next for the USA

This thread not really this has remained civil and informative. But I think literally all the other gun threads went down the path of well look at what X country did it will happen here too.

I think the problem is so many people aren't like yourself and are not even open to a discussion. They just say no any changes regardless of what they are take away my rights I don't even want to hear what you propose. Then again that's politics if both sides were always open to reasonable discussions shit might actually get accomplished lol.
