The other thing dont think has been mentioned is for restricted wepons inc handguns you have to apply for a autorization to transport which restricts transport of restricted wepons only to and from range facilities. Youd be taking some hefty risks taking it into the bush or not on a direct route between your house and the range.

There is a CCW called ATC but only for wilderness work purpose

Biggest difference in my opinion is the PAL testing here. Allows the instructors to make sure the applicants are getting guns for the right reasons and getting proper training.

My friend in Canada decided he wanted to own a firearm. He applied and listed me on his application as one of the references. It took months but one day his permit showed up in the mail. The bureaucrats never even bothered to call me.

He then went for the next level to own a pistol (first had to join a gun club or something similar). Listed me as a reference. A few months later I got a call from the RCMP and we had a 30 minute interview. Most questions and discussion points were psychological in nature.

Besides the wait, not really a big deal. I am pretty sure this is in some way tied to your driver license so don't get pulled over if you are carrying your pistol and not coming from the range.

Cant take a restricted wepon out in the bush PERIOD. Only for range use and only to be transposted on direct route between home and the range. Buddy would have to meet you at the range. Always in locked container with trigger lock with ammo is seperate locked case.

RCMP are using game cams here on a lot of the trails now, not worth the risk.

Does make it a pita, would love to be able to take a restricted with me out in the bush but not going to happen unless rules change.

Seems pretty straightforward to me that it renders the weapon disabled for transport through an area it is illegal to use to a place it is legal to use
