To Own A Gun In Canada

It means you cant just go around town with your handgun in your truck. The only purpose for handguns here is for range use, nothing more. As for safety, its detering many people from buying handguns as they have limited uses and a lot of restrictions. Were lucky we even get to own restricted wepons.

Guns in canada are not primarly used for self protection like in the US

Even for non restricted guns, rifles, shotguns If you get pulled over they can decide to take your wepons to make sure they are properly registered, even ther is no more registry and you may have done nothing wrong. Theres a good chance you'll never see them again too. Just the way things work here.

 

So you don't just roam around with a restricted firearm in your vehicle

When was the last time you heard of someone having unrestricted firearms that were being properly transported by a person with a valid permit confinscated ?

Happened to a buddies dad and have heard about others. Its to confirm the serial number and they are registered to you, they have the right to confiscate on any grounds. When I go with my buddie, always make sure to tuck the firearms away out of sight just in case.

 

I'm not saying it may have never happened ever , but your previous post made it sound like it is a common occurance which in my experience it is not

i understand you don't have the same laws, what i don't understand is why they would take away a privilege to do something, like freely own a pistol, and the only reason they give is safety.

 

yes it is, there wouldn't be areas where they were restricted from if there weren't restricted weapons.
