I've read enough threads to make my head explode and I can't get a definitive answer as to whether or not I actually need resi shocks. I'm building my truck for overland travel. I've never done any serious off-roading and I don't really plan to do anything super crazy. I'd like to eventually do the Trans America Trail, drive the ALCAN and maybe the dempster one day, go down to Baja.. Are resi shocks really needed?

The truck will eventually have a CBI Dakar bumper and a winch and will be carrying a topper with bed drawers and assorted camping gear and rear 4x innovations bumper, so figure 1k worth of stuff in the bed.

I was looking at Fox and King. I'll go Fox if resis aren't needed and probably King of they are. I'm going to go with Total Chaos UCA's and a custom leaf pack from ALCAN.

I don't want the resis to look cool as I can save a decent amount of money to put towards other stuff by going with some lower end fox stuff if it's enough.

Thanks man. That's pretty much what I was looking for. Sounds to me like I can save some money then.

The additional fluid capacity of the reservoirs mitigates shock fade. Shock fade is created by repeated cycling of the suspension. The more the suspension is cycled (distance of shock travel) and the faster the rate that it is cycled at (such as blitzing whoops), the fasters the shocks will fade.

For your use, it doesn't sound like you need it.

I went with 2.5 non-resi and it seems like they don't fade much at all under moderate use. I was worried I'd regret it, but for the occasional off-road adventure they do just fine.
