So I came across a sweet deal on Craigslist for a camper shell about 3 months ago and have went with my shell on and off, but find myself thinking I want to sell it, im turning to TW for some help.

What are some advantages and disadvantages of having your camper shells on, and is it a good idea to keep it since I already have it, or sell it and get some money for other mods?

    Thanks TW

keep it... puts more weight in the back end for traction and keeps stuff safe and dry.

If you are not putting things in the bed of your truck that are taller than the cab more than once or twice a month keep it. If you need the open space a lot sell it.

I find myself needing a trailer to haul most big stuff now because of the 5 foot bed, which justifies the camper shell for the storage I think, just wanted to get second opinions from other guys that ran shells.

I've got one that came with mine. I like it. I've gotten used to the look. But eventually I want to build a ceiling hoist in my garage and store it up there and replace it with a tonneau cover. The dealership never cleaned out the bed of my truck, and it's a pain to get in there with the cap on. But I suppose that's pure vanity lol. Although it does stink pretty bad after taking the trash to the dump.

I'd keep it and maybe find a way to store it if you don't want to leave it on all the time.

Depends on how you plan to use your truck.

I am currently working as a firefighter and have to carry tons of gear with me all the time was the main reason for buying it in the first place, but I leave in 2 months for basic won't really need it much then, thought about making a full sleep platform and adding a roof rack to the rear just for weekend adventures

I love my shell. I think the truck looks better without it but the utility goes up exponentially with the shell. Once you add the shell you end up with more secure cargo space than just about any full size SUV on the market and the cargo is isolated from the passenger compartment. A Sequoia, Tahoe, or Expedition will have more cargo space if you fold all the seats down but that kind of defeats the purpose.

Every time I bought a pickup I ended up putting on a shell. I figure it prevents things from walking off when parked at the mall or in the woods. For larger things I use a trailer.

It all depends on your preferences.
