To signal, or not signal, that is the question

No M.F.G. is void of idiot drivers... I remember, drivers education in H.S. where the instructor said, if a vehicle is stopped in front of you waiting for traffic to clear in order to make a left turn then, you also, should turn your left signal on to warn others behind that you are stopped even if you are going to go straight.

Wrong. Your brake lights are the warning to drivers behind you.

If you are signalling a left turn, then you are expected to make a left turn.

BS. My brake lights are the warning for those behind me. Furthermore if space permits, I'm gonna go around that person on their right. What REALLY pisses me off in situations like this is when the person making the left turn hugs the right side of the lane. Even worse is when there's a car between us blocking my 'pass on the right' by stopping tight to the back of the turning car but also hugging the right side of the lane.

Signal, every time. It’s just habit at this point as I noticed yesterday I signaled leaving my driveway.
One fix I had to make a few years back was ensuring I signaled BEFORE a lane change, not during it.

Two explanations as to why folks don’t signal
    1) Stupid - The “why” is beyond them
    2) Lazy - self explanatory

Frankly, if drivers were not idiots we could have autobahn level driving. Ever notice that speeders are the absolute worst drivers. Not that speeding is what makes it bad, that 99% of the time the faster they are going the more idiotic things they do.

    Story time.
In 25 years of driving only a handful of times have I run across a good, fast, driver. Happened yesterday. Cooking along at 3 over traffic, about ten over. Notice a maroon charger with demon eyes coming up behind quickly. No swerving, no road racer, but planned deliberate movements. Ended up I was in the left lane passing a semi when he came up behind me. Came up quick and slowed JUST the right distance away. Close enough to be ready to get around me, far enough to not be tailgating/pushy. I kept my speed but moved over when I was safely ahead of the semi, he never got pushy. He clocked it back up when I was clear.
He ended up getting hosed by a left lane looser (LLL) a short distance ahead. He waited, gave space, and than signaled and went around.
If others drove like this we could have 100mph roads.
But no, the LLL he got stuck behind clogged the left lane, constantly changed speed, then did a three lane dive for the exit the pothead didn’t notice until last minute.

Blinker fluid is really expensive to ship to Hawaii, we have a shortage here.

I distinctly, remember the instructors logic of everyone gets used to brake lights/brake checks he also, recommended we use the emergency flasher when a flagman stops you in construction waiting for oncoming traffic. He told stories of flagman getting hit and cars being rear ended. People are so distracted that blinkers are better to get attention and good for safety of all.

Not only do I use my signal but I refuse to fix my hyper flash as to over use the signal. It has to be double the flash in the same amount of time, so there is no doubt I'm going in.

I also like to flex my MESO set up on these peasants.

For what it's worth, I don't politely signal. I signal and merge aggressively and quickly, if I can help it. If I think someone is going to block me out, I certainly don't let my signal blink for a minute so that they can close the gap. SIGNAL MERGE. DONE. QUICKLY.

Always signal even when I don't see any one around, because I just may not see them. As a motorcyclist it's one of the habits that helps keep you alive.

Even if a driver has their turn signal on and doesn’t turn you still have to yield the right of way.

    Not in Pa.
When merging from an on ramp, it’s the driver merging who has to make way regardless of turn signal. The existing car on the road/highway has right of way.
If I have space I always pull into left lane to allow the merge but that’s a courtesy not the law.

if people use their turn signals here, they do it after braking or merging into the turning lane. it completely defeats the purpose of signaling and i honk at them every time. they always treat me like I'M the asshole. wish i could say it was unbelievable, but it's not...unfortunately.

I always signal in traffic. Sometimes I don't signal when I am confident there's nobody else around. So... I signal most of the time :)
