Ask visa or my wife. They both constantly remind me how much I've got left to spend.
The only reason that I've not s/c'd my taco is because they don't have an X-1 for us 09+ guys yet. I figure that if I'm going to have the thing apart then go ahead and install the t-stat, cam gears, x-1 as well as the s/c all at one time. So for now just saving my pennies.

Well look at the mod difference, not to mention your kit wasn't ever a true MKII Stage III, as you had the larger blower on there (back before URD upgraded their kit to it).

Larger blower, more boost, manual, lighter vehicle, etc. But I'm sure your X had a lot more pickup.

I wish you had gotten some acceleration videos of your truck, or had it on the track prior to getting rid of it. That way we could have gotten a good idea of how quick it really was.

    x100000000.

    Boost > N/A everyday.

Homertaco, is that 3k for a new s/c, fit kit and everything? I'd like to know where you got that quote if it is.

I have seen this price on ebay for a complete kit a few times //// also have seen it for $3499.00 on a couple of TRD parts sites.... I figure, as long as it's NIB (new in Box) and stealership installed I'm in good shape - the $500 install price was quoted by Thompson Toyota in Doylestown Pa & Team Toyota in Langhorne Pa.:D

the leading minor of order 1 is not positive definite.
I just copied and pasted this from a company that specializes in blowing engines (not tacoma specific, but the info applies). I looked it up because I was curious and don't see many people talk about it. Basically, I think if you drive your truck hard anyway and don't care too much if it makes it to 150,000 miles or 250,000 miles, then supercharge it and enjoy it. But if you drive your truck nice and easy it will last longer (fwiw, it also says this in the owners manual). If you supercharge it you will have to drive it harder to make it worth having, but then stuff will wear out more quickly (if you have the $ maybe you don't care how long it lasts?).

If anyone has first-hand experience (I don't) with the relative longevity of a blown vs non-blown vehicle I'd love to hear more about it because I can't find much (TW or google). Do they last just as long? New thread?

"Will a supercharger shorten the life of my engine or drivetrain? That is a very subjective question, as the manner in which an automobile is driven directly affects engine life. Assuming a properly tuned system, proper oil change and engine maintenance, and similar driving style, supercharging generally will not shorten the life of an engine, just as is the case with OEM turbocharging/supercharging systems. This is especially true of centrifugal supercharging, which generates boost in line with engine rpm, unlike roots and twin screw blowers, whose low rpm boost can place additional strain on the engine and drive train.

Superchargers will not increase transmission or clutch wear under normal driving. When racing, however, the additional torque provided by supercharging will place additional load on the entire driveline chain, especially when increased traction is present, such as with slicks. This impact is minimized when the boost increases with engine rpm, as is the case with centrifugal supercharging and turbocharging. Transmission/clutch life can be increased though the use of an aftermarket transmission cooler and learning to shift properly."

Thanks Homer, I've seen some of the eBay kits around 3,400 but had rather get it from a reputable sorce. I've heard of a few people getting kits with parts missing and kits sold as new that were clearly used on eBay so be careful if you go that route.

Cheapest and most reputable places I have found the complete TRD SC kit for is around $3700 @ TRD Parts 4 U, and Totally Twisted Creations. TTC may be a little cheaper I think, and they get great Rep on XRU...

Ebay may have great deals, but when dealing with something this expensive and critical as far as install and possible engine complications, I prefer not to save $300 for a hit and miss product. stick with the reputable vendors...

That sucks sinoaloa but I've been on the xru site a good bit and have read a few guys getting ripped off on eBay s/c from individual sellers. People have been getting either the wrong parts or parts that are missing and some like you have been paying and not getting anything at all. I'd rather get my s/c from someone that had a dealership, address and phone that I can call or at least take em to court to get my cash if they try to screw me over. Just my 2 cents

True Ty... I'd still be reluctant to buy it on Ebay... Iwas more concerned withthe stealership install than the s/c cost initially...:frusty:
There's a TRD site run by Richardson Toyota that had the complete s/c kit for $3,399.00 so add a few Hundred to the total price from an actual dealership... At this point for me it's a no-brainer that I'm gonna do it!:burnrubber:

When I was shopping around for the best price for my new Tacoma and the dealer couldn't beat the price that another dealer (the manager is a family friend) was giving me, so they offered me the s/c kit for 2k with install OTD, I didn't go for it though because between 0% for 60 and the deal on the over all price I saved way more than 2k, but for the 30 seconds that my excitement overtook common sense I almost wrote a check right then and there.

Back on topic, I really hope you enjoy your s/c Homer. Personally now that I have calmed down and really thought about it, I just don't think I am mature enough to do something like that :D.

im thinking about getting a s/c later because i want to armor the shit out of my 06 dc. tube bumpers front and back, sliders, roll cage, full bb skids, and a winch. will i need a s/c so i wont be sluggish? or will i be fine? i also want to overland too and i dont think premium fuel will be available everywhere. do you absolutely need premium all the time or is occasional regular ok? my woman has a s/c grand prix and has been using regular for a good 20,000 miles and nothing seems different from when she bought it with 40,000 on it.

Its not necessary unless your bumpers weigh thousands of pounds. The 1GRs to begin with are a rather high compression engine and once you force inject it there is a greatly increased chance of pinging. 91 or higher is required:)

watch out for ebayer seller team extreme guys, my boy bought one from him about 6 weeks ago and never got it. Luckily he got his money back via paypal. I just installed mine and while I'm not breaking records I can definitely feel more torque.

well as I stated its a 3rz not a real quick engine to say the least adding the s/c which I got for $2300 installed by me. its fun and definitely get you down the road in a hurry. if I wanted a sports car I would have bought a sports car. I need to haul stuff (firewood/4-wheelers/lawnmower) I can't see loading the lawnmower in a 370z. The car is cool but not for what I need. adding the s/c made it lots more fun and I have yet to have any real issues. had it since last January.

First post! Picked up my 4x4 DBL Sport last Monday. Love it!

I just ordered my K&N CAI before I bumped into this SC thread. I don't yet have another $3k to spend, but would it benefit me to go with the TRD CAI over the K&N if I want to upgrade to the SC in a few months?
