Most likley you won't see a gain between the k&n cai over the trd cai there both about the same and there isn't really any powergain from the intake just noise. I bought the trd cai an I only notice the increase in sound which is what I was looking for and I don't really see a performance gain over the stock intake if you want real power gains you need to step up an spend the money on a supercharger. (wasn't directed at you as a hostile post just putting out my $0.2)

The premium fuel is so you don't have detonation and knocking. That grand prix was probobly tuned and setup to be okay to run regular however not all forced induction setups are the same the more power you make the higher grade fuel you need to run. If you really wanted to you could get an x-1 and possibly get it tuned for 87 but you will be loosing power. If you can afford the truck an blower I'm sure you can afford the premium fuel

No offense taken. It's just easier to spend <$300 right now to get some noise and maybe a few MPG's extra. I have a lot to buy and mod right now, but the supercharger is on the list. My comparison of the K&N and the TRD wasn't for performance or noise. It was merely meant for interoperability and perhaps warranty after I add the supercharger. Any thoughts on it in that context?

you can use a cai with the s/c but you should really get a MAF calibrator from URD if you do so....
I plan on doing this in Sept.:D

I already figured both mods would require some sort of tuning. I'll be screaming for help anyway once I'm ready to buy the s/c :)

Performance means different things to different people. Straight line acceleration is a portion of performance, but having that "performance" on a road course/ touring track means nothing on a truck. I want my truck to scoot but if my suspension can't handle it, I'll spend $$$ on other mods.

Plus, Im not a fan of the S/C whine. Any mitigate it yet?

If you don't like whine, there's always the URD.

Had various toyotas over the years, the trd unit is the way to go. The charger whine is awesome, but actually not loud at all at idle or low rpm.

Something else that may or may not have already been covered in this thread, toyota warranties the unit for the life of your drivetrain warranty if dealer installed. Only 12/12,000 miles if you or someone else installs it. That alone justifies the price of the dealership install IMO. Mines been supercharged since 1400 miles. Has 36,000 on it now. Great setup. labor on the install was around $700

so you're saying supercharging wont kill the engine faster unless you drive it like it's supercharged? that kinda defeats the purpose for most people, but oh well... my question is does it kill the engine itself or the auxiliary components more? will the block and heads be shot or will you just need new pumps and plugs and valves and injectors, etc? i've understood it to be that the engines themselves are rated for a whole lot more than 200000 miles, it's everything else connected to the engine that has a design life of about 100-150k.

I've seen two Tacos, one 05, one 06, with S/C's and over 200,000 miles. Both have experienced zero issues. One has had the crap ran out of it, the other not as much. The one with the crap ran out of it was just purchased by a local Toyota Master Tech. He told me he felt that the motors were as bullet proof with a S/C, as without. He went on to say he fully expected to see 400k miles out of any 2nd gen, as long as the oil got changed every 5,000 miles.

My qen 1 with the 3.4 V6 had 178K on it when it was recalled... The supercharger still put out 7.5psi of boost at around 3500rpm.
I really miss it & it looks like I'm going to have to wait until spring to supercharge the 07'
