    What's up all,

Been lurking around tacomaworld. And have done my share of searches. Many have said that supercharging is the way to go and others have said to just change out gear ratios.

But its 2017 and gas prices have are higher in the tristate area since 2013/14. I understand it's only .30 - .50 more per gallon... but it adds up quick when your driving 110-120 miles, 5 days a week. And then again... I can't get rid of this urge to upgrade my taco for a fun daily driver! (Wish there was a switch that could turn the supercharger on and off)

Just wanted an up to date opinion from members who currently have a supercharger yota.

    So what's your .02?

I'm gonna supercharge my little 2.7. I did the math the other day and it was literally $10 more a tank. To me it's worth the more smiles per gallon :burnrubber:

Quick question; what does it do to the long-term life expectancy of the engine?

Do it right, and it's not going to affect engine life at all. As long as it's tuned and not knocking, it won't damage it.

On a side note though, when supercharged, people like to use the skinny pedal more. Obviously, running high rpm and heavy load will wear any engine out faster.

Although you're a second gen it may be different, but there was a first gen on here that was supercharged with 300,000+ miles with no problems.

I love my supercharger. I will say the gas pump sucks. I am lifted with 285's and a heavy pig. I actually bought the sc so I could move the weight up the trail easier. You don't get a sc to save money.

My truck was supercharged for the first 200k and has been turboed for about 5k. You'll lose about 1 mpg average even if you're not in boost. Blowers are just plain inefficient. You'll have to run premium gas and IMO it's still too low of octane. Unless you have another $500-1000 to spend on fueling and know how or are willing to learn how to tune you will have a less responsive mid range with the SC.

There aren't any long term effects to be concerned IMO. It makes decent power. There is no spool up time compared to a turbo. The system has less points of failure, I.e. its pretty burly and won't give you issues when 4 wheeling.

It's a pretty pricey set up all in all and despite being a bolt on and common conception if you want to get the most out of it you need quite a few other bolt ons and a fair amount of time to spend tuning. If you're looking to save money on gas look elsewhere. That said I was getting 16/19 mpg supercharged with 32" KM 2's.

The supercharger maybe easier and cheaper, but if you're looking for a "on-off" switch a turbo might be a good idea. You can drive plenty without going into boost and affecting gas mileage substantially. And on the plus side it goes stutututu :D

The fuel hit you'll take (MPG wise) will depend on your driving and your skinny pedal tendencies. On a road trip in my buddies supercharged 04 w/ 285's, it got ~20mpg as long as you keep your foot out of it. Around town though you may expect 13 or so if you're nice to it. In other words, DO IT! :burnrubber:

Screw it. Didnt need much convincing... It's done. I found a slamming deal on a setup locally. Supercharger, urd kit, and headers for 1500. Will post it up once done.

Not really since its belt driven, it will always be pushing air into the system

You could get a larger pulley I guess, that way it won't spin as fast until you get on it

Doesn't mean it's always in boost though.

That actually sounds good. But would it be bad for motor or sc?

I said the same thing. How the hell did I find this. Was buying a set of wheels from some guy and starting bullshitting about cars. And he brought up this setup he had laying in garage. He asked me if i was interested before posting it.

    So friggin lucky.
