To sway or not???

    Every incident besides getting in an accident would result in avoiding points..why would you want to do that?

    Is this the type of swaybar disconnect system you saw? It doesn't work for 4x4 Tacos because the sway bar will hit the CV boot when flexing.

    You need something that works on the shaft portion of the sway bar:

    I would not recommend removing the sway bar. Try this maneuver with- and without the sway bar. The difference is dramatic:

    The guy I found on here would only disconnect it while wheelin offroad.
    Yes he carried zip ties with him or you could make some kind of removable chainlink hanger to get it up and out of the way. Myself, I have to leave mine on because of all the defensive driving you have to do around the DC metro area. Idiots and deer in very populated areas. :rolleyes:

    If you have stock suspension I would see the point of leaving it on. Stock suspension has a very plush ride. With aftermarket coilovers you are going to have a stiffer ride. I doubt you will feel a difference from stock with the sway bar VS aftermarket without the sway bar

    Also I think if you have to emergency swerve for almost ANY situation you were not paying attention. Animal runs out? You should have been going slower in a place where animals are (IE mountain or forest roads). Kid runs out? Why the F* are you speeding in a residential area? Trying to avoid an accident? You were following the vehicle in front of you too close. Bottom line, drive your truck like a truck and stop thinking its a sports car. Always expect an emergency (sway bar or not) when you are behind the wheel

    LOL I and honestly say i have never done a maneuver in any car I've ever drove. I watch the road ;)

    i agree with stock suspension taking off the say bar is not a good idea but with upgraded suspension with coils with a higher spring rate you won't even notice it.

    When I installed my Icons with 650 lb springs, I busted a ball joint on the sway bar link, so I ran without the sway bar for a while. Steady-state cornering is fine. Then I tried the moose test at 25 mph (about the speed limit in many school zones). The amount of body roll was scary. Put the sway bar back on, the difference was night and day.

    This is like saying you don't need to carry a weapon because you can always avoid trouble. There are enough stupid drivers and pedestrians on the road nowadays, talking on the phone, merging into your lane without looking, etc. Unless you drive only in rural areas where there's no one else on the road for half a mile in each direction, to get anywhere in a reasonable time, slowing down in every area with a possibility of someone jumping in front of you is just not practical.

    Ok then you keep speeding around and keep thinking your sway bar will save you from accidents. What I do is leave earlier and SLOW DOWN. Your method will fail before mine.

    Actually the sway bar and the truck's torque saved my ass a few times already the last year alone. Slowing down won't help you when a tandem-trailer dump truck decides to merge into your lane after only the first trailer has cleared...

    Let's take speeding out of the topic. If it is a daily driver. Leave it on. If it is a weekend wheeler and you drive it slow and steady. Take it off.
    If I can avoid an accident or hitting someone's pet, I will push the trucks limits to the fullest with out rolling it over. The sway bar helps.

    You'll notice a difference, there's no denying it! I recently had to swerve to avoid an accident and scared the shit out of everyone in the truck……but I knew what to expect and it was fine! You'll get used to it. Not sure how to explain but it's a feeling of over correcting....basically the wheel gets very sensitive and the smallest adjustment will get the body rolling. I don’t drive ridiculously fast anymore and am always aware how the truck reacts. Now when my wife drives that's a different story!

    The new stiffer shocks will help it!

    King 2.5" extended travel coilovers with compression adjusters, Camburg UCA's, King 2.5" rear shocks, TRD 1st gen CAI.
    Mine has been off for over a year now. Only time I put it back on is if im driving up to Washington state or something like that. For driving around town, you'll be fine.

    On most production cars and pickup trucks sold in the US today, that shouldn't happen unless you hit a curb. The tires should slide before rollover happens.

    that^^^

    i have no sway bar, and am quite top heavy with crap on my roof and above the bed, and my tires just slide before my body starts rolling too far, even with quick turns. where it gets nice and dangerous is when you turn one way and then the other, like in the moose test.
