I have two sets on steelies.
    IMG_2256.jpg IMG_2260.jpg

I run them when I know I'll be 'off road'. Why waste good OR tires on the street and also get poor mpg.

12" of mud and snow going up to the top of the divide on a washed out public road the Cooper AT3's work well enough.

Gah! touché. You know what you're doing then.

Well like I said originally if you value mpg over off-road capability you need a different truck, which you got (the Silverado). Since you have a seperate rig for off-roading it all worked out! But I could've told you from the beginning to avoid the taco if hauling a heavy load for 1,000 miles and getting good mpg is a concern. I've had plenty of tanks where I only got 14mpg on all my tacomas so I just knew exactly what I was getting into.

I can attest to that statement. Back in MD I was getting 15 to 16 mpg average. I'm lucky to be getting 12 now here in Montana. After picking up my RTT in Billings I got 8.6 on my drive back to Great Falls.

Stock tires play a big role in your mileage. 35's and TRYING to go 70 with wind and all the weight of armor in the mountains is what causes my bad MPG's. 8.6mpg to be exact. But we all live in different areas so its not going to be the same across the board.

Yeah doing the speed limit here will suck gas. The 6.2 doesn't suffer at speed, only when towing.

You dropped 4mpg with just the rtt? Christ. My wife made me buy a 24ft Arctic Fox bumper pull travel trailer and fully loaded with water, gear and propane I get 11-12mpg.

Yeah with my rack it sits a foot over the cab so I have a lot of wind resistance. It didn't help the winds were pretty bad that day. I like the fact that most speed limits here are between 70-80 but barely being able to do them isn't as fun. I didn't think the truck would struggle as much as it does up here.

If that question was towards me then yes. I was doing about 70mph on average during my trip. I get better mileage city driving vs highway.

Granted I have a 4-Banger, but I was pretty much stuck in traffic all last week on my trips back and forth between the gym and Starbucks and home, and I averaged 19mpg :bananadance:

Was this actual MPG (calculated when filling up) or dash gauge MPG? My experience with in-car MPG gauges is that they're not exactly accurate.

Best I've ever gotten with my 2012 4-cyl is 23, all freeway going 75-80. Typically around 20-21 mixed driving. 17-ish while towing.

Pretty darn good! I consistently average high 21mpg to mid 22mpg from tank to tank.

Thought I'd share my good experience with mpg's, loaded. I have a brand new 2017 TRD-OR Access cab, automatic with stock Wranglers. I recently drove from Denver, Co to Green River Utah, 353 miles on a single tank of 85 octane, using 18 gallons, and averaged 20.8 mpg via the truck computer, and 19.6 computed by me. Conditions were - no wind, 20 - 40 degree temps, very light traffic. This was awesome considering I had my Tepui RTT on a KB Voodoo high rise rack, Two coolers full of beer, food and 50 pounds of ice, sleeping bags, camp chairs, 8 bundles of fire wood and axe, small viair compressor, 5 gallons of water, and miscellaneous camp gear. I'd estimate total gear weight of around 550 lbs. and a combined passenger weight of 300 lbs. Went over numerous 10,000 ft +, Mt passes including Eisenhower tunnel, Vail pass, crow hill, etc. We left Denver with 386 miles on the odometer, not yet at the 500 mile break in period, so I took it pretty easy averaging about 50 - 55 on the steep grade passes, using the "S" mode on the tranny to control shifting and would keep it at 70 on the downhills and flatland. I was amazed to see that kind of mileage. I've done that exact same drive with no load and no passengers in my 2015 4runner and averaged 16.8, and had to fill up before getting to Green River.

Honestly this rig is an in town cruiser and off-road rig. Highways in the west show the deficiencies in this power plant. The range SUCKED. I was sweating bullets out east where the nearest gas was 100 miles from where we were hunting. At some points the closest gas was Williston or Regina CN..

The best I ever got on my truck was 28.2. this was doing 45-55 on pretty long drive.

This was pre turbo of course :D

OP when should I show up to class since your handing out lessons?

Hwy miles are easy but I did a half a tank of strictly city and got 14 mpgs.

I got 7.1 with RTT bed full of stuff coming back from Overland Expo West with a solid headwind and grade up. First time I ever was like, fuck i might run out of gas before the next station.
