Could you answer the poll above? Hoping to get some reassurance before I pull the trigger and abandon my 2010 Prerunner.

Get a Manual and then you don't have to worry about any of that.

I spend too much time yelling at my kids in the back to shift.

The manuals are the exact same.

The problem is the RPMs being too high before shifting not the shifting in general.
The manual transmission is no different. Not sure why people say that.

Manual sucks in this truck. Loose trans mounts have it bouncing all over. Clanky and noisy too.

    Obviously I meant.
If someone doesn’t like the engine in the 3rd Gen they won’t like it regardless of the transmission.

    Reread what I said.

I test drove the manual before the auto. Both had the same high RPM issue. The high RPM makes it feel the trans isn’t shifting. The trans is fine. Its the engine.

Theres no need to get butt hurt over it.

Some people don’t like the new engine. Its not personal.

The engine has a feel some people can’t get used to. Just like the auto on-off feature in Fords and Jeep/Dodge/Chrystler. Or the belt trans in Hondas. It feels odd.

It really depends on what you had before this truck. If you had a diesel or a v8 then high revs could bother you. I came from a high revving vehicle so it was not an issue. If the engine is designed for it there is zero problem, other than the driver.

Right, my original post was to the OP's Poll, sounds like his choices were about the shiftyness of the Auto, which is why I recommended the Manual. Yes I agree that you have to drive these trucks differently as they seem to be lacking a little low end torque.

The truck drives quite a bit different with an auto and manual. I have owned both. Transmission is mated to the engine. And the diffs. What affects one, will affect the others. Some still don't like the truck, regardless of the transmission, which is fine. It's all subjective. But I do get amused by those that are outspoken about their distaste of the 3rd Gen's, yet they remain here to tell us so every day.

    Carry on.

I don’t think are enough 2019 owners here to give to a statistically accurate answer.

I have a 2018 AT not a 19, however same motor/transmission. I came from a 4runner 2008 and i feel that the Tacoma has more power than the 4runner. I have two friends that did the same transition from a 4runner to a Tacoma as well. No problems here whatsoever and LOVING my Taco every minute!!!

See thats the thing about manuals, YOU choose when to shift. So "RPMs being too high" doesn't make a lick of sense, if you believe that then you simply shift earlier and the RPMs won't be as high.... :boink:

Can’t speak for a 2019, but mine was built
July 2018. No issues, shifts perfect thru out rpm band. I think the the problem
everyone is talking about has been resolved.
I have 1500 miles and runs perfect, V6,
