Maybe he talks about the Rev hang? It sure seems weird but it doesn't really affect my shifting, it probably even help it as far as rev matching goes when upshifting lol

I think this is more true than most want to admit. While my drivetrain is a now defunct carry-over from the 2nd Gen, the 4cyl also needs some revs and I also came from a car that needed revs to get things going.

I had a WRX, and if you were under ~3000 RPM it was slower than molasses. Probably accelerated the same as my 2.7L at low RPM, once you hit that magic number then you can move. Obviously the Subaru would hustle much more at that point but the concept is the same.

a complete load of crap. The manual transmission in this truck is the best 6-speed ever put in a passenger truck, without a doubt. And in general the MT on this gen of Tacoma is amazing. Disregard comment

I almost changed my mind about buying my 2017 because I read too many of other peoples opinions about the truck on this site. I was able to get my dealer to let me take one home for 24hrs to see how it would drive.....for me. Ordered mine the next day when I turned it in and have never looked back. Does it have some quirks? Sure, but they are very very minor in my opinion and I love my truck.

That's what I was thinking. With a MT, if you don't like the high RPM's shift earlier. Maybe at 3000 RPM. If you want to get on down the road, hold the gears a little longer like ECT behaves. That said, I think we all agree low end torque leaves a lot to be desired and is made up for by stretching the RPM curve.

The 2019 AT I just acquired seems to shift just fine, but it is still in "learnin" mode. We'll see after a couple thousand miles or so.

This truck is just like my old RM250 dirt bike. It putters until you hit a number, magic happens and now it's a rocket lol.

and if its the "rev-hang" thats neither an 'engine' or 'transmission' problem, but a software one.

The cause of rev hang can be put down to the war on emissions. ... This strategy is used because it was found that suddenly closing the throttle produced a sudden spike in gas pressure within the crankcase which emphasised the rate of oil vaporisation, thus adding to emissions from the engine.

as usual, this forum is full of non-issues regarding this truck.

My 2019 is shifting and driving better than my 2016 even after I had the TSB done on the 2016.

I dont think i can answer the poll with those choices. Ive put around 750 miles on my 2019, the transmission seems fine. It does like to shift early and keep the revs low if you dont stay on the gas but thats the computer not the trans. The ect button fixes that and holds gears much better, but i usually dont bother using it unless I need to merge on the highway or get into traffic fast.

I don’t know of your 2010 Tacoma experience, but I will express my experience from a 4 liter a Nissan Frontier to a 2019 Tacoma is that the “Off the Line” it is sluggish. But I only have less than 900 miles on mine. I bought the Tacoma for Off Road and Trail worthiness. Not a race car. It blows the Frontier Pro 4x out of the water off road. From what I understand, there is not much of a difference between the Tacoma 18 and 19 models. Maybe open up your research poll? I’m new here so my opinion means nothing. I will say this, the drivability is amazing compared to the Nissan. Newer technology and features are simply amazing. I could not be happier.

I don't know... Haven't drove much MT cars but my friend sure did, he has been driving modified cars since he got his license and absolutely loves the transmission on my truck, especially how smooth it is.

Drive a 1st or 2nd Gen Manual Tacoma and then follow it up with a 3rd Gen Manual, its light years improved!

Might be better compared to a 2nd gen but that’s not saying much.
