Sure, I have over 25K on mine with no issues, no problems, no noises, no leaks, no complaints. No way of knowing if it's issues free tho. But I love my third, my .2

I traded my 2nd gen (07) for a 2017. I did a bunch of work to the truck. But I like the new one better. For some reason I never had much love for the second gen. I really missed my 1st gen (96) for years after getting my 07. I missed the 07 for about 1/4 of the trip home in the new one.
My father in law ended up trading in his 05 for a new one too when I went to pick mine up. He's also much happier in the 17.

In my experience most 10 year old trucks with 150K on the odometer will bring 1/2 of the price they actually sold for new. Not sticker price, but the actual OTD price you paid. Any money spent on modifications is usually lost, they rarely add a dime to value and often reduce value. To me that is the sweet spot to trade or sell. At that point it is pretty rare to have spent any money on major repairs. You haven't had a payment in at least 5 years and if you've been smart and saved a little money during those 5 years. The money you get for your old truck + the money you saved means a significant down payment on a new one and a very low payment, if any. Depends on how much you saved. Trade any sooner and you lose too much money. Keep it much longer than 10 years or 150K and the value drops to the point where it may be best to run it till the wheels fall off.

its 5 years old, run it another 5 yrs minimum then think about getting a used 3rd gen then, keep your money in your wallet and take you girlfriend/spouse on a nice vacation....or invest the money...

The smell of a new vehicle can be intoxicating, and the new shining paint persuasive, I try hard to avoid it.
Having said that, there are some significant changes in the new 3rd gen, new drive train gives great fuel economy, at least it does to me for my use (no lift) It roars and moves like a bat out hell when I gun it to pass, the bed is larger and the interior tech is a big plus with all the digital info.

Mine has been great in the last 22k and having it just about the way I like it, it would be hard for me to trade it, so I feel your pain, you have to weight it all.
The only thing that might do it for me would be significant safety changes like BSM, cross traffic alert, 3d bird’s eye view (like the Rav4) and such that would cost too much for me to add.

    Hope that helps,
    Cheers!

No reason to pick up more car payments. The 3rd gen is a good truck but there is no better truck than one that is paid off

The 3rd gen is riddled with issues. Toyota hasn't fixed the transmission or the rear differential howling.

Stick with the 2nd gen and save your money up, so if a few years you can snag one of the fixed versions with cash.

No. You're going to trade one howling problem for another (that doesn't even have a fix).

    So what did you decide?

I don't think it makes any sense to get ride of a truck you have paid off and already customized to your liking for a truck that has a power plant you have already said you don't like.

I would like to see some data to back that up. I havnt researched, but I havnt heard anything about that and from my experience Toyota has been pretty good with their sunroofs, atleast from the runner crowd.

For the simple fact that the Baja is a rare ride even now, I vote no...especially if you are red one. Extinction might be upon us if we don't act now to save these majestic decaled-AF trucks.

But if the call for a third gen is that great to bypass the work invested, then my friend, that love will likely only grow stronger until you finally succumb to the third gen.

sure would.....and did. 25k is what I got for mine as well.

Traded my 2011 DCSB 4x4 sport for a 2016 DCSB 4x4 sport ...no regrets at all.

if they offered me 25-28k, I would consider it for sure!

Reason being: I would come out ahead enough to keep just about my same payments as now. So: same payment, newer truck (I'm at 40k), better MPG, and quicksand color? That would be a go for me lol.
