Like how stupid. Toyota’s stock MT tune has different maps for each gear, why?
You want consistency in your throttle input, especially with the MT.

    Definitely a head scratcher.

Intake snarls quite nicely at those engine speeds.

Went ice fishing with this guy, he went in my truck. I was fucking around on the forest roads. At one point he said: “wtf you are still on second?!” I said Yep, cuz race truck…

I agree, I read a bit on the whole CAFE (corp avg fuel consumption) thing and unfortunately it makes the manufacturers do some stupid things because its a struggle to meet the standards and still meet driver expectations. Its possible to drive a vehicle such that one will exceed EPA mileage but few people have that discipline. Basically drive like grandma or look up hypermilers. Some cars have an Eco button and consumer reports tested this - no change in mileage unless you drive like grandma in which case the button still does not help because then you dont need it. The problem is that Eco mode tries to force you to limit engine rpms and it just causes people to press even harder on the gas because they are not in the power band.

Some examples of total screwups motivated by CAFE - Toyota and Ford specing 0-16W or 0-20W oil in some cars which resulted in very low oil pressure and noisy engines. The whole low friction BMW piston ring debacle (I think Acura also) which cost them a pretty penny. And usually these measures do not result in any meaningful improvement in fuel economy but apparently on paper it improves CAFE.

My wife has a Mini and that thing drinks oil, no way you can make it between oil changes without going way below min and I have read lots of people damage Mini engines because they are not accustomed to checking oil levels. Independent Mini mechanics recommend checking oil almost every fill up!

I'm not generally anti-government but good grief these measures cost the consumer a lot of money and frustration.

Note the RPM value for ACIS activation RPM, high:

Also, here a link to a PDF that reveals a bunch of good info WRT the 2GR-FKS:

For the Ovtune, on their website, do I judt click on the "Tacoma 3.5L vf tune pack" that's $300? That listing says it doesn't include cables, vf tuner, or registry. Is there something else I need to purchase with it?

Also I went from premium tune (93) octane here in Cuntnnecticut to Reg (87) before the big gas hike and the tune is far superior to stock.

Actually i have with ingersoll rand back in the day. Their engineers do a great job. Trust me when i say the its those bean counters in the front office that will scale back what these engineers develop. You'll get something that ends up much cheaper as long as it makes it through the warranty period.

thank you very much sir. So would the Toyota dealership techs be up to speed on these TSBs? If I take it to my dealer would they make sure everything is up to date for free?

    You're welcome!

They should, but read that thread. There is real struggle at some to get it done. That is why the thread was created.

I did 7.0 OTT Tune on May 23rd of this year and 2 weeks later got the 8.0 update...Med/Mild.

I've felt/seen a significant difference and enjoy driving my Sport; MPG has improved.

Just had the 15K ToyotaCare Maintenance (TCM) and all went well!

Cabin Air Filter was in the yellow range but will need to be changed on the 20K TCM this December.
