In a litigious society such as ours, don’t you think it would if it was a big deal?

Yes. I know I will let my truck warm up till I can see out the windshield so I don't run over anybody or hit another vehicle. Safety first.

That has nothing to do with wear and tear on the engine, though.

I'm shocked none of the "let it idle until the temp is half way" crowd has shown up yet.

Nah, they’re inside making coffee or taking a shower while the truck runs.

The experts also think that 20°F is "bitterly cold" :p

In -15°C -20°C (-4°F), I make sure my truck is plugged in and normally just run it for 5 mins before driving.

At -40°F and colder, I run it for a good 10-15 mins. The truck doesnt take long to warm up.

A cold engine runs a much richer fuel/air mix when cold and dumps a lot more fuel into the engine. It takes an extremely long time to warm up running idle (no load) after a cold start.

The fastest way to get the engine up to temp is starting the engine and driving it immediately.

Cold starts and idling your engine when cold is one of the worst things you can do and is considered severe duty. This leads to oil dilution (excess fuel in the oil) with excess fuel in the combustion chamber.

Fuel dilution leads to an excessive amount of wear on your engine considering thousands of cold starts and cold engine idling.

Only time my truck warms up for more than 15 seconds is when there is snow to brush off or ice to scrape.

I'm not proud of it but I'll admit to driving with my head out the window because I'm late and can't wait for the windshield to defrost. This does not happen often.

I've been kind of wondering about this my self, being a FF I can't let it warm up but I'm going down hill most the time and can just basically let it coast while hauling ass at the same time until I get to the main road. But when I get to the bottom it's not floored but I'm getting it for sure. But when I can i do let it sit for about 30 seconds then hit it. Been doing it for 7 years with an 05 then a 12 and now a 17 . No problem yet. Fingers crossed.:fingerscrossed:
    (Ok that's some big fingers)
