I will be assisting a family member with his Tacoma. I'm preparing to assist with diagnosing this week for a no start condition. I cannot say for sure that this is actually a no crank or no start condition. I would simply like to be ready to focus on the crank circuit but would like confirmation if the immobilizer could prevent cranking. I did not see that it would from the diagrams I have (Chilton, yea not the best but all I have) so wanted to ask before beginning the diagnosis. If I discover its actually a no start condition, is there a way to isolate the immobilizer from the ECU to eliminate it as a contributor to a no start condition once I have determined that all other connections are in place to the start relay. Could someone please advise regarding this.

    Much thanks!

The immobilizer will NOT prevent it from cranking.
You can crank it until the battery goes dead.

The security light (key icon) should NOT flash with the key in the ignition.
If it flashes with the key in the ignition the immobile will not let the truck start, it cuts fuel to the engine. (But you can crank the truck)
