tocoma oil change 6.1 qts?

I took my 2008 tocoma to my dealership for my 5,000 mile oil change. I have done 5,000 mile changes regularly.

When did Toyota change the oil change from 5.5 qts to 6.1 qts for the tocoma?

They showed me a spreadsheet that Toyota sent them with the new information.

 

When i change oil i put approx 5.5 qts and check that the oil is at the proper level on the stick. I know there is some residual oil on the internal parts could that be the reason?

 

5.5 qts in my 06 V6. They must have the 'special' dealer spreadsheet.
When did it change (model year) & did they charge you per qt?

 

I think the new 4.0 in the 2010 FJ holds 6 qts. I'd check and then get a refund.........

 

The 2.7 uses 6.1 quarts, however, 6.1 quarts seems to over fill the engine. In my 2.7, I use about 5.5 quarts just like the V6.

My 2.7 takes 6.1 quarts, but I just use 6 exactly and call it a day. Shows perfect on the dipstick, and I don't have a half bottle of oil hanging around.

 

i think the dipstick is off on the newer ones...there are threads about it...i just take it to the dealer and whatever they do is what i use...lol

 

Every tacoma 1gr Engine takes 5.5 quarts. I have a sheet with every toyota fluid capacity, and nowhere does it say anything over 5.5 for a tacoma

 

The 2.7 is a 2TR engine and the owners manual shows 6.1 quarts. I don't know what engine the OP has.

 

Except for the dry fill

 

Do they have one of those charts for the 2.7?

changed mine 3 days ago, took 6+ quarts and its JUUUUUUST over the top line. i'm going to do 6 quarts and call it a day.....truck LOVES mobil 1 0w20....my mpg is getting better (2.7L 5 spd ac 2wd).

 

I wonder if they finally made the dipstick better. When I bought my truck new, I checked the oil and it was about 1/4 inch above the max line. When I changed the oil for the first time, I added 6 quarts and sure enough, it was a 1/4 inch high. Since then I've been using 5.5 quarts and it's right on the max line. Maybe I should go back to 6 quarts and not worry about the dipstick reading.

 

I Know my 06 pre-runner 4.0 took 5.5 Quarts.I now have a 2010 with tow package and optional oil cooler. It may take a little more but I have not changed the oil yet.
