i have something to say to the pansy armchair quarterbacks on this thread

    1. this was not "excessive force", ..they kept distance and tried non-lethal force (taser).. suspect fended off taser like it was a pen-prick (i.e. more than likely he was "on something" heavy)..

    2. the K-9 (i.e. dog) is a cop too. if you think a K-9 should somehow be put in danger or sacrificed to validate aggressive threat by a dirtbag you need your head examined...

    3. those of us trained in using handguns for self-defense know that a lot of what you see in the "movies" is 100% B.S. people rarely drop like a rock w/ one shot, ..no matter how "close range", etc... a .45 (ACP) is not an automatic manstopper, etc.. especially on a hopped-up suspect, they can take severe wounding until their blood pressure drops too low.

    4. we can "hear" in the video how many shots were fired, but we have no "clue" how many actually hit there mark... the statistics in police shootings show that most shots miss the target (for a variety of reasons), ...also the K-9 cop was shooting "one-handed" because he was restraining the K-9, ..shooting one-handed is difficult enough, especially managing recoil, and aligning the sights - even at close ranges, w/ a "moving" target...

    5. "shooting to wound" is another "hollywood" B.S.,, ...if you have any intent to survive, you'll shoot to "stop, ..now", and the biggest target area is top-center-mass...

I'm not going to take one side or another. There's already too much hate between the cops and the "badasses" on this forum.

I can totally understand why this happened, as soon as the 2nd officer noticed the suspect moving towards him, he reached for his own weapon. He only fumbled for a second or two, which leads me to believe he was a rookie, and this was probably the first time he has ever used lethal force against another person. All he did was fumble and then carry on with his automatic reaction. As he has been properly trained to do. His partner already had his weapon drawn, which is why there is the delay between the 2 bursts.

After the first officer fired, the suspect was still standing, and probably still holding on to his axe (or whatever it was), and the 2nd officer was justified in his firing. Sure 5 rounds seems like a lot coming from 1 weapon (so 10 rounds seems like overkill) but try to put yourself into that situation and see how well you're able to count your rounds with that amount of adrenaline pumping through you.

Officer's are trained to neutralize the threat. Whether that means 1 round or 10. If they only need to fire 1 round, and the suspect surrenders, then that's fine. In this situation, after the 1st burst, the threat was not neutralized. As long as the suspect is still standing and seems able to continue using his weapon, he is still a threat. ESPECIALLY as the distance they were at.

And if he was hopped up on drugs/whatever, he may not even feel the bullets, and will still be able to harm you. I have seen taliban fired up on cocaine and other stuff take multiple rounds of 5.56 and still able to function. One incident that I have heard about (not personally witnessed) was an enemy take 12-15 rounds at 100m, and still advancing. He then took a burst of 5.56 across the abdomen at ~50m, which literally cut him in half. As he was on the ground in pieces, he was STILL moving towards his AK to return fire.

Now for a more personal opinion. If I was the 2nd officer, I would have done exactly the same thing. BUT! If I was in the first officer's shoes, I would have done things slightly differently. As soon as I saw the taser not effect the suspect, I would have unleashed the dog. This is a hard call to make, and I am not criticizing the officer for his actions, I'm simply stating that I would have done something slightly different. And this is a tough call to make, because officers and K9s train together and work together for YEARS. They are literally family in many cases. But in that situation, I feel that using the K9 would be perfectly warranted.

Not sure what you're trying to say, but Monterey Park is NOT the community I live in... far from it.

I respect my community. I've put in work since I was a little kid to make mine better. I just wish it started acting like it deserved the love that people put into it. I live in fucking Glendale.

Wow look at the comments on the vid

"that cops an idiot, Why'd he wait so long"

no matter what cops are wrong. There is no right or wrong amount of force to anyone...

bottom line criminal dead, cops alive

i hope they dont punish these cops for protecting themselves and the public

I am an Officer with a large southern California city, have been employed as such for 11 years, 6 on SWAT. This is a good shooting. One thing that I noticed was that it was raining so the suspect had on a jacket and possibly a sweatshirt underneath. The taser has to make two points of contact on the target, the larger the spread of the two probes, (with major muscle groups in between them) increases its effectiveness. If only one probe makes contact..(which appears to be the case) it will not work.

The guy had an axe, and a backpack with who knows what....he wasn't there to eat cheeseburgers. You see him turn to swing the axe at the officer behind him. K9 Officer shoots because he sees an immediate threat to the life of the other officer. A firearm is considered lethal force. Police are taught to stop the threat. You keep shooting until the threat is stopped. LAZYLEGS posted earlier that the K9 officer should be fired, earlier in this thread. He is ignorant and knows nothing about firearms, deadly force encounters, or how quickly a person with a knife or axe can kill someone, yet he has a strong opinions with no knowledge to back them up....Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise....PROVERBS 17:28

SO DO US ALL A FAVOR LAZYLEGS, ET AL. SHUT IT!!!!
