Raising it like a baseball bat and approaching the officer is good enough for me.

5 rounds by one officer and 5 by the other was a little overkill. I agree the guy was given fair warning and they did everything by the book, but 10 rounds seems excessive. My guess once the trigger was pulled adrenalin kicked in and that may be the reason why they shot him as much as they did.

So, who makes the decision on what amount of force stops the perp from harming others? Is it the same amount of force for every person, high and not high? What if they get it wrong and one bullet doesn't stop him? Will two?

Cops are trained to end the threat. If you decided to shoot, shoot three times, or more. When you decide to pull the trigger your life or someone elses must be in jeopardy so you end the threat. Don't dance around the idea and injure him. Kill him.

They didn't use the dog cause...........the guy had a freakin axe! Police dogs are just like police officers, if they feel the dog would be in danger they will not use them, would you send your friend in two get hit?!

In regards to the taser, it's possible only one barb made contact and the other got caught on clothing.

To all arm chair quarterbacks.... You have never had to make a decision this quick. Three rounds or ten who cars dead is dead and when someone wants to cause grave bodily harm you dont stop till they arr die. They tried non lethal methods, which is not required then escalated. The cops did the right thing. No body complains when a cop is saving thier ass but as soon as something ugly goes down we second guess them. I agree with mgrande too the laughing discusts me and shows what our youth thinks

^this. One thing I can't stand is people that question police officers actions in situations such as these. We aren't out there risking our lives every day so how dare we judge what those willing to risk their lives do to try to stay alive. IMO, until you've been in a situation like this, you have no room to say what was wrong or right.

I figure bottomline is situation went to shit, and in the end I'd rather have a police officer still alive than an officer killed with another violent person still walking the streets, maybe sent to prison for a bit only to get off early or on good behavior, potentially still ready to rob/kill more innocent people, and get hyped up on drugs (if that was the case?)

As saddening as someone being killed is, I guess the only reasoning for this kind of situation is that yes a life was lost, but how many more have been saved?
