The officer that would have been struck by the axe didnt even have his weapon drawn he is lucky his partner was there to save his ass. Their is a general rule for LEO's when dealing with perps with edged weapons, the 21ft rule, the LEO shoud be ready with his weapon drawn, that 21ft is just a ractionary gap. You meet deadly force with deadly force, a fight with a cop,any LEO, or soldier will never be fair it isnt meant to be, that is why no pepper spray or any other dumb stuff was used.

"A suspect with a knife within 21 feet of an officer is POTENTIALLY a deadly threat. This does warrant getting your gun out and ready. But he cannot be considered an actual threat justifying deadly force until he takes the first overt action in furtherance of intention--like starting to rush or lunge toward the officer with intent to do harm."

dont get me wrong killing another human being is a horrible thing, but this is black and white the officers had no other options.

jeeze I never knew how many liberal hippies are on TW. This guy took a swing at the cop. the K-9 officer did what he needed to, in order to save his fellow officer. Say he didnt shoot, that other officer would have a crow bar in the neck. So I thank these officers for doing there job and helping protect where we live. And those idiots behind the camera piss me off. "He could have pulled out his baton or something instead of shooting him." stupid idiots.

Just because its an animal and not a human doesnt mean we should value there life any less, That dog has more morals and respect for his owner then half the people on this planet, Im an animal person and really hate people who have that kind of outlook. Especially towards such an amazing animal like a dog. I had a German Shepard that saved my life when i was younger, I owe that dog my life to this day!

And to stay on topic, The guy brandished an axe and he damn sure wasnt cutting down trees. Police officers are trained in these situations where they have to make decisions on the fly. The police officers life was in immediate lethal danger and he did what he had to do. The other police officer was protecting his co-officer. Honestly its like drawing a gun on someone, If you do it you better use it. This guy made the choice to advance on an officer with a axe. Did he expect the officer to tackle him or what?!

 

That is the truth x100%. "Police brutality" always pops up with videos like these. Yet I am sure this sort of situation arises all the time, and yet when no video is present people are always like "yeah! another bad person not able to hurt innocent people!"

When a video does pop up, sad angry face turns on and lawsuits or complaints are filed.

Another thing to add is desensitization. We are able to see such violent things like this on videos, and in reality it seems so easy to watch over the internet, but in person it may play out differently on the emotions, not to mention the fact when no one no longer understands the weight it brings to take a life, and watch it be taken. Whether for just cause or not. This officer will still probably have to regret killing the kid somewhere down the line.
