So after about three weeks of pissing about for a few hours here and there my truck is back on the road. I'll say the stock slave cylinder setup is slightly easier to manage than the hydro bearing was because the engagement was quicker, so other than not feeling quite as buttery smooth it does seem a little nicer to slip the clutch. Pedal doesn't feel heavy at all due to the Spec pressure plate, which I thought was a possibility. PDM sleeve and throwout bearing installed.

Additionally I added a Truetrac, cause why not? Truck feels a little different when driving but it's hard to put a finger on it. Changed the front diff and transfer case oil as well. Then added an AFE momentum scoop (got it on black friday sale) to my frankenstein'd magnum intake. I think it makes the engine bay look a little nicer and hopefully it sucks more air.

Cleaned out the rear drums and painted them black.

Drilled through my firewall and put a daystar boot so I can run switch wiring for the Bussman RTMR relay box and am fabbing up mounts for it.

Will be playing with wiring for a while but it's gonna be at my leisure. Want to wire a traction aid disable switch so I can leave it always on or off as needed.

Also want to Heli coil the supercharger lid.

Funny you mention that about the helicoil, I just bought some new bolts for the lid. I haven't put them in yet, but as I think you're inferring, a few of the 10mm ones have stripped the threads out of the manifold... I bought bolts with one size bigger threads and will drill and tap each one.

Great work on the turnaround, I feel you on having to take the transmission off again just to fix the hydro bearing (happened to me a couple of years ago but it was my fault, not the bearing's)

Seems to be a common problem, it's on the first page of the SC thread. A couple of the bolts did feel stripped last time I put that cover on. It didn't take much force at all either. Definitely wasn't cranking on it. I'm curious if my intercooler gasket stayed in place or not as I had a hell of a time getting it to glue on. Will probably just yank it out if it's loose or has shifted. Don't think my engine ate it though, probably would have felt something.

As for the turnaround, you want to learn to do something, do it twice lol.

Helicoil seems like a very expensive way to do it.... maybe I’ll do it my way and take a bunch of pictures, and call it the Athlaos method. Finally something to my name.

It was $40 for the kit through Amazon so nothing too crazy.

Nice. Did that include the taps? I bought the bolts and two taps and that came to $40 as well. Maybe slightly more actually. But the bolts are hex drive so it'll look slick.

Yup, it's got enough coils of the right size, drill bit, tap, install tool. Only need a tap handle (or use a wrench) which surprisingly I don't have considering how many threads I've tapped at work and home.

Hex heads will look badass though!

Installed 10 helicoils (kit came with 12) out of the 12 bolt holes for the SC lid today. One helicoil got dropsied into never-never-land and it was never seen again (near workbench, not engine bay). One coil got buggered up when the install tool wouldn't quite line up properly on one of the two holes recessed into the cooling fins. Shaved the install tool down a bit and that fixed that problem.

The intercooler gasket was barely hanging on so I just said fuck it and took it off. Last spring I used brake cleaner, roughed up the bonding surface of both gasket and intercooler, used 3M super 77 and red high temp gasket sealant and nothing wanted to stick particularly well. Will have to do a log because I'm thinking that there's got to be a flow increase without it (and probably slight heat increase as well).

Spent half the day making a bracket (out of a scrap bracket) for a breaker which will then provide power to the Bussman relay box. Turned into a nice little protective shelf.
    PXL_20210320_232336873.jpg

And relocated my catch can because it was right in that area before and it was a pain in the ass to empty it due to the congestion. Simple aluminum bar bracket and now it's out of the way and nice and accessible.

Well, I've just had a pain in the ass week. To top it off my truck threw the SC belt the other day. Wasn't too far from home so drove back. Upon inspection the nut appeared loose on the lower tensioner/serpentine pulley. Tried tightening nut and it spun but the threads looked good on nut and stud.

Turns out the stud broke off in the block. Some obvious damage/wear to the fancy crank pulley and SC pulley edges and some rounding off where the stud mounts to the engine.

Already drilled a hole in the broken off stud piece and have to borrow some extractors from my dad this afternoon. Think the chunk should come out pretty easy.

Too much rouche tensioner muscle? Running 23mm pulley and 69" belt.

Have to order parts on Monday. If I get the stud chunk out I can put the serp back on and run without the SC.

Canada lifestyle. $20 stud required $40 to ship to Canada should be here next week. Fast shipping would've been $65.

Russ, you ever order from partsouq? I'm in Calgary as well, and have often ordered from there, usually parts that are generic for yotas you can find if you have the part number.
Fedex will sometimes ding you tho, so fair warning.

Nice build btw, i'd say you've used your covid time well.

    Thanks dude!
I've never used partsource but will check it out the next time I need something. I've used tdotperformance and partengine a couple times.

The stud was unique to Magnuson and wherever they sourced it. They referred me to Superchargers online and their shipping options were brutal obviously. I needed the part though and it actually came faster than predicted so I'm back on the road again.

And in the continuing saga of shit luck I have been experiencing lately.

Went with the family to go for a walk by the river and the road was closed due to construction. As I went to turn around the truck bucked and stalled. Turned on and stalled again and lost power to the truck as well. Slowly gravity backed up out of the way and called my dad to pick up my wife and boy and bring brake fluid, a 10 mm wrench (which I usually keep in the truck at all times) and a multimeter.

Eventually found a popped ANL fuse that I have between the alternator and battery. Replaced that and topped up clutch fluid and drove home and truck felt pretty good. When I parked I noticed clutch fluid leakage. No appearance of any visible shorts or wiring issues whatsoever.

Found a leaking brass brake union going to my clutch slave cylinder from the accumulator delete. Tightened it and it felt like it stripped. Took it out and it was cracked. Probably from prior over tightening (it's in such a tight, awkward area).

I think what happened is it gave out and/or let out a good squirt of fluid and I stalled due to unpredictable engagement. I started the truck and the clutch was partially engaged because of it and the truck lurched which most likely surged the alternator and popped the fuse.

To top it off my "quality" over the range microwave died yesterday after about five years.

I'm gonna have to find a horse shoe and stuff it up my ass or something...

Wow. One of these days something has to go right. Even the best of us get unlucky sometimes. At least you didn't get towed.

What is this fuse you speak of between the alternator and battery? Is that a recommended upgrade? Now you got me nervous.

I don't think your fitting should have cracked just from tightening it with too much vigor. I'd bet you suffered from another defective component.
