I've never heard that "fig" term before, and I used to work with those guys at the power plant... It could be because everyone called each other "fucking [something]" all the time regardless... funny how engineers have to become so vulgar in order to get along with the people who actually do the work.

@SnozzCumber Good to see another engineer around, I am one as well although from U of A not NAIT. That's an interesting process you guys use up there, I took a mineral processing course in University and it was one of the more good ones. I designed a gold mining plant. That was fun. Got an A- in the course I think.

I have a friend who worked at the Ekati mine when he was young. Many, many seasons ago. Sounded pretty isolated but definitely good money. He ended up a partner in his dad's business in HVAC and was able to build a 4000 square foot house in Yellowknife, so I think things turned out all right for him ultimately. He had a Tacoma for years too, a 1st gen.

edit: end Joe Biden random rant. I must be getting old.

I'd never get the wife living up there and at this point in my life I'm an urbanized yuppie (not really) compared to my very outdoorsy younger days.

Backyard diamond mine! I'll get my son digging holes and we'll use mud to separate the good stuff lol.

He has a piece of "real gold" that's really a painted rock from a friend. Me and the wife were talking about fake gold one dinner because one of her coworkers Lebanese relatives got sold a chunk of 'gold'. The boy began insisting he knows what real gold looks like.

Nah living up here is something I enjoy but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone else. Man yea that reminds me I want to buy one of those fake gold bars on ebay - the brass ones with gold plating... and then pose with it in pictures like a gangsta. But if I did that I guess I would get people stalking me up here...…..

I got a gold tooth this year but unfortunately it's a rear top molar so you can't see it unless I fish hook myself... Which I sometimes do around wifey to look like the stupidest gangsta ever and make her rethink ever marrying me lol

    Dooooo eeeeet!

    The installation instructions are excellent.
Took me two days roughly at a relaxed pace and I had downloaded and read the instructions beforehand to know what to expect. Have extra coolant ready for the intercooler system and you have to change and mod radiator hoses so you need to catch and reuse or refill the rad with new fluid. There might be other odds and ends needed (lock tight, Rtv) but the instructions tell you what you need.

I would NOT pay for or recommend the bullydog tune though so save your money on that.

    Your best options are:
    A) A dealer can flash the TRD tune for you (a lot of dealers won't anymore so find out before install)

    B) Get Hptuners (for a fee depending on services rendered JustDSM can flash your ecu if you send it to him or buy the dongle and he'll send you the tune to flash yourself).

Trouble spot: crank pulley is probably the trickiest.
Have a good impact for removing the crank pulley bolt. Not sure how exactly it's tightened back on with auto trans so you may want to search.

Fuel pressure regulator mod is a good choice. Just placing a vacuum line in a different spot. How to and details are on first page of the SC thread.

Also, to be honest the SC is kind of lacking in stock form. Dropping to a quick change 2.7 or 2.8 pulley and the right size belt helps bring smiles and doesn't require an upgraded fuel pump.

One tool I really liked was a pair of hose clamp pliers. Really useful and cheap at princess auto.

A good pair of hose cutters is nice but a knife works as well.

If changing the pulley you need a decent puller to remove the old one. Cheap ones tend to die. And an install tool is needed to get a new pulley hub or pulley installed.

And I have a nice cheap belt tensioner tool (princess auto) that I always keep in my truck. Nice and thin and easy to use compared to a ratchet or breaker bar. Very handy

Cool man! Thanks for this!!…. I know the importance of a good tune. Might start out with the TRD tune and see how I like it, I like the idea of further tunse with HPTuners but I'll see how the TRD goes for a little while..... since it's stock and all and some engineer designed it...…. not that engineers always do the best thing lol

A smller pulley sounds fun.... I saw the URD has some, I think there's other companies like Smoothflow??

@Athlaos are the dealerships in Edm good to do the TRD tuneflash?

I'd go smooth flow over URD but that's personal preference.

You might have to phone around about the trd flash. Also, stay out of or disable boost until tuned or you may grenade your engine.

If it was me, i'd install a fuel pump upgrade at the same time, that way when you are ready to drop down a couple pulley sizes, you're ready to rock. I have heard mixed things on whether the fuel pump is needed with a 2.7 or 2.8. I know some have run 2.7 without a fuel pump upgrade, but they were spraying water methanol as well which adds fuel. Just something to consider while you've got it all apart! Russ has hit all the other high points that i can think of though. You're going to enjoy that blower for sure :D

Also, i highly recommend smoothflow, Nate is very good to work with and sends stuff out quickly

Yeah, I installed my fuel pump almost immediately after installing the SC. Didn't want to deal with any possible fuel delivery issues.

I actually don't know how the dealerships around Edmonton are for flashing the TRD tune. I always go to Sherwood Park Toyota because their parts guys are the best, they know me and give me a standing discount. But yeah you'd have to phone around the city and see who is able to do it.

Russ, do you know if the truck will even idle with the TRD injectors on the NA injector tune? I thought I read somewhere that it won't.

I have no idea. I remember reading about people driving like senior citizens to the dealership to get the flash done after they installed the SC. No idea if the idle changed.

I think the injectors would be wonky under heavier (medium maybe?) throttle without the flash but that's just a slightly educated guess. I would expect idle to stay the same.

Okay so fuel pump definitely a good idea!! URD's kit is good enough I assume?....

I just realized something. I could buy it now but because I can't drive to Edm to get it flashed, I'd be screwed and not be able to drive it until Coronavirus restrictions are lifted for the territories...….. I called the proxy Toyota dealership up here and they said they don't do the flash.

I might buy it now anyways because who knows what ideas I'll get for my money six monhts from now.....
