I purchased a Carista OBD2 and turned off engine noise enhancement. Engine noise does seem more subdued. I have questions about ANC. My baseline is a 2024 TRD Off-Road iForce Max with original (OEM) Falken Wildpeak tires. There are certain stretches of I-5 interstate that are quite noisy at 65-75 MPH (due to age, road surface material, etc). In moving from a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-Road to the 2024 there was a significant reduction in cabin noise levels presumably from increased cabin insulation and implementation of ANC.

In the 2024, when I turn ANC off and on using Carista while driving these noisier stretches of I-5, I do not notice any significant difference in cabin noise levels. It might be too subtle to notice, or the noise too great to subdue-- but I have a couple of pairs of noise reducing headphones and earbuds, and when you turn those on and off the difference is quite noticeable. I guess I was expecting a more noticeable effect. It does not seem to matter if both ANC and Engine noise enhancement are both on or off, or other combinations of on and off. Do others have different experiences toggling ANC?

I did disable the ANC and the engine noise thing on my '25 Sport. Noticed the reduction on "engine noise" but didn't noticed any change with the road noise.

I turned off both and notice less engine noise and more tire noise which is fine with me. Overall it's a quieter ride.

Does it have Active Noise Cancellation? You may just be turning on/off something that was noted in the software but not implemented. I don’t recall ANC in marketing materials and assume it would be touted if it was included.

Anyone know if changes made with Carista are logged somewhere where Toyota might see it? Just wondering about warranty implications. I already have an OBDLink MX+ dongle that I used previously on my Wrangler which I think would let me use Carista by only purchasing the software license.

I used a similar tool on my Wrangler, to enable LED lighting, change tire size, etc. Didn't seem like those were a concern since it wasn't "performance" related changes.

That is a good question. Asking the general question with keywords 2024 Toyota Tacoma ANC in a search says it does, but with no official documentation to a Toyota source material (like the owner's manual), but it also notes that implementation may be different with different trim levels. Or maybe even different option packs? I thought I had seen some Toyota marketing materials around the "Limited" version (which also touts improved sound insulation with a different glass selection). I have a "poverty" version iForce Max that does not have either official option package nor the JBL sound system. One reason I am asking.... but, I definitely have the engine noise enhancer so...

    The general search response:
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma utilizes an Active Noise Control (ANC) system, which includes an Intake Sound Generator (ISG) and sport-tuned exhaust to both reduce unwanted cabin noise and enhance the engine sound. This system can be perceived as either a positive enhancement of the driving experience or a source of artificial noise, depending on the individual driver's preference. Some trims, like the Limited, feature more aggressive noise canceling and artificial engine noise, .
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    • Active Noise Cancellation (ANC):
The ANC system uses speakers to generate sound waves that counteract and cancel out certain frequencies of unwanted noise in the cabin, resulting in a quieter driving experience.
    • Engine Sound Enhancement (ESE):
The ISG and sport-tuned exhaust system work to amplify and enhance the engine's natural sound, creating a sportier exhaust note.
    • Artificial Engine Noise:
The combination of ANC and ESE can result in a perceived "artificial" or engineered engine sound, which some drivers may find less authentic than the natural engine noise of previous models.
    • Trim Levels:
The amount of active noise control and artificial engine noise varies between trim levels, with the Limited trim having the most aggressive implementation.
    And more confusion?

lol…yeah. I turned it all off. I do not like ANC - I feel too much pressure in my head with any ANC headphones. Getting a headache just thinking about it.

I couldn't say if the changes are logged in the ECU memory, but there's nothing on the list that really impacts the warranty. Changing the sound level of the blinkers, how many times the blinkers go off when tapping the turn signal stalk, no fake engine noise from the speakers, or turning off seat belt chimes doesn't effect the operation of the vehicle components...at least in my mind. I can see however, that increasing the fan speed or output of the ventilated seats could. They may be able to saw the motor was overloaded if it fails prematurely.
