toilet that keeps constantly running???

any plumbers or anyone else round here know what would cause a toilet to constantly run? one of ours is doing it and its getting on my damn nerves with the trickling water sound. whats the cause/fix?

 

see if the flapper is stuck

 

the pull chain links may have doubled up-make sure the flapper closes all the way onto the hole-chech where the flapper hinge is positioned on the neck-the flapper needs to set level over that hole

I had this issue multiple times. Check everything that the above posts said but you can also screw that floaty ball thing that measures the water level. You should be able to screw it lower so it sits tighter above the water. Make sense? Dang listen to my instructions, haha, you can tell i aint no plumber neither!!!

im not entirely sure this is a serious thread. . . . but if not, just take back off and figure it out.

 

I vote on the flapper not sealing tight. Something is prob keeping it from sitting on the bottom completely (like the chain is too tight) or the flapper needs to be replaced. Other possibility is the shut-off needs to be adjusted so it will stop the water when the tank fills. Old ones could be adjusted by bending the arm that holds the float. More current ones will have a screw-type adjustment on the top of the valve assembly.

It's the flapper. The ball screwey thing is the float, youd mess with that if there was only an ounce of water in the bowl and you were leaving skid marks and wanted more water in the bowl. It's cheap and easy to replace. Fluidmaster makes the best replacements, you can get them anywhere. You can try to either press down or slightly lift up where the flapper is hinged to the fill valve so it seats better until you can get to a store. Remember the water in the tank is clean.
