I have an 09 double cab with short bed. My bedliner goes to the top of the rail then has the plastic cover on top of the rail. Is this the over-the rail system people talk about? I am looking at getting a rollup tonneau cover but dont want to replace liner. I also have the rail system in the bed as well.

There IS NO liner unless someone added one. The tacoma's come with a composite bed not a metal bed.

Get an access l/e tonneau. You will have to take the rails off to install the tonneau rails, but you put them right back on and you can still use the rails / tie downs.

Don't know what an over the rail system is :notsure:

Impulse hit it. That isn't a liner, it's the actual bed. And all the roll up type covers fit on there without having to remove the plastic bed rail covers or losing the bed rails.

I have the Literider and I love it. I need to add some sealant to the edges because there are a couple spots that drip after two years.

how does the cover install then? the metal goes up to the top of the rail. Does the cover hardware hook into the rail systems?

There are Torz bolts that hold the bed rails on right now. When you order the roll up cover it comes with the rails for the roll up cover, spacers, and longer bolts. You take the bed rails off, then put the spacers, the cover rails, then the bed rails back on.

The edges of the cover velcro down and the red rails lose an inch or two across the bed but are still usable.
