Luckily, I live about 2 minutes from the Toccoa River, which is a year-round stream :D. And we're actually supposed to have some good weather this week, and time changes. So, hopefully, after work I'll be doin some trout fishin about every day this comin week. (If everything goes as planned).

That woulda been the first thing I woulda done if I was movin! I think I'd die without trout fishin. I'd rather trout fish than do any other kind.

But thanks for all the recommendations guys! I'm gonna have to look around and see what I can find. I've got a while before I'm gonna really need it, so I've got plenty of time to shop around.

I just looked on the SC DNR site and there's no freaking trout streams, or at least stocking locations, around here. Guess I'm too close to the beach (I'm a mile away). I'd have to go way inland for that. Oh well, guess I stick with saltwater.

I have a couple of friends that have a tonneau on their trucks and they said they get better mileage with it on. I can see how this would be possible since there's no wind getting caught in the bed creating drag. I didn't think it would be that noticeable though. Can anyone tell me if they noticed a difference?

i have a topper on my truck. its nice and secure. at any given time year round i have thousands of dollars of backcountry gear in my truck. theft is not a big deal in my area, but thats no reason to give someone a reason to steal your stuff. I can pile in twice as much stuff with topper as compared to a tonneau cover.

also people can ride back there too if you are maybe shuttling or picking up hitch hikers.

the only thing that sucks about it is now i have to buy a trailer to carry snowmobiles and motorcycles around.

No difference for me. The bed with no cover actually creates a cushion of air that allows the air to flow over the bed without getting caught. Mythbusters did a show on it. There was no gas mileage benefit with a tonneau cover. The worst was the tailgate nets and tailgate down. They actually lost gas mileage. The only one that produced a benefit was a tailgate mesh. They surmised that it must be enough resistance to create a cushion of air in the bed like the tailgate would, and since it was lighter than the tailgate, created some gas savings (about 5%).

Even though I dont have it anymore, I loved my Extang cover. No buttons. It used the Ziplock style technology to close it up. I would never have to worry about an unexpected load in the rear using a hard cover. I hear they're easy to remove if needed, but I'd rather roll up the cover. Food for thought.

I like the thread revival :D. Yea I thought Mythbusters did a show on it, and I didn't think it would really save that much. Just something I heard and thought it was worth askin people that actually have experience with it. I like the looks of the tonneau more than the camper top. After I graduate in a couple of weeks and actually get to start workin 40 hr weeks I'm probably gonna invest in a tonneau, just not sure which one yet....

This is what i had. Very secure and obviously roomier than a tonneau. However i just took it off and sold it couple of weeks ago and now looking for a good deal on a hard tonneau...the truck just didn't look like a truck anymore...[IMG]

I paid right at $600 for my aluminum fram tri-fold tonneau cover. One of my favorite mods. If you ever have to haul anything like a mower or four wheeler your screwed with a topper. But, for security a topper MIGHT be a little better. Simple fact is, if somebody wants your stuff, they're going to take it.
